Den-O: Why the criticism?

I'm not a new generation fan, I don't compare the showa riders with Hesei riders...I don't and I won't. every rider is different.

so people are weird cause they tend to like something new and different?

also, you are saying that the showa riders are original and the hesei riders suck because they are not 100% faithful? just because they adapted Kamen Rider to the 21 century does not mean is not faithful. its still true to the action genre. so you think is an insult if people like Kiva more than Kuuga...or Kabuto more than Agito? really? just because they are not Showa riders???? is like me getting mad at Heath Ledger for playing a different Joker from Romero that played a totally different Joker (which I don't, I love both jokers)...same goes for W, in my opinion, W is way different than other riders...but its still a kamen rider...and its stays true to what it was meant to be...an action show for young adults, or teens. there is no rule book of how a kamen rider is supposed to be...its an idea that fans created to make walls for future kamen riders. and you are contradicting yourself by first saying you are ok with den-o, then you say den-o disonors the kamen rider name. so witch is it? and you are ignoring what I said, like I said...I don't go around comparing each and every rider...I love and respect every rider...I really like kuuga just like I like Agito...same goes for Den-O. but insulting fans of Den-O because they like it more than Kuuga....its wrong...and there is not dissonoring Kamen Rider's name...cause:

1. Kamen Rider, a franchise does not have honor.
2. Fans created this honor...Kamen Rider was created to make money...to entertain kids and get ratings on tv.

also...if...IF Den-O would have come out first in the showa era...if it would have been the first rider...then everything would be different, you would be saying that Kuuga is dissonoring Den-O...and that its an insult to have Agito and other riders have his name.

also, you might be saying you liked or tolerate Den-O, but when you say that it dissonored Kamen Rider and did this and that...is pretty much trash talking a show...a show that accomplished what it did...entertain, sell...sell and set a new standard for the series.

and I'm not comparing and never compared Den-O to other series...if I did, then sorry, and I don't see how liking Den-O is insulting the series...just like liking Star Wars Episode 3 is insulting the series. have you ever wondered if these people who like Den-O more that Kuuga mean it? have you ever though they watched kuuga first? and liked Den-O because its more original?
and Kamen Riders was build by less than 2 decades, then it stopped and had road shows. till 2000 with kuuga. and the concept of the first riders was the best they had back then (damn good stuff by the way) terrorist and Starfish Hitler. back then with all the war and terrorism. now they got something new.

with Kuuga and Agito, when they aired, it was like the first kamen riders...showa riders. but, like any network, it will try something new. so they used Kamen Rider's name since Ryuki. there is nothing wrong for being faightful. but there is also nothing wrong from being different to what you say it is the "true" kamen rider.

but I don't want to start something here, all I'm saying is that is wrong to call people who like Den-O retarded and is wrong to say that Den-O dishonors Kamen Rider's name...when it does not affect it. same goes for Kabuto, Kiva, Decade, and maybe Double.

oh and by the way

"It's kinda like saying you're a faithful Christian but doesn't believe in God"

God = Showa Riders

Faithful Christian = Den-O/hesei riders

or so that's your analogy

I just finished the series and I've got to ask:

Why does Den-O get a bum rap? It was a good show, which is rare to find these days.

Why does a good chunk of the fanbase dislike it?

Because people like to hate what's popular because they like being "rebels".

I'm not a new generation fan, I don't compare the showa riders with Hesei riders...I don't and I won't. every rider is different.

Nobody said you did.

so people are weird cause they tend to like something new and different?

Again, you are missing the point entirely.

also, you are saying that the showa riders are original and the hesei riders suck because they are not 100% faithful?

Don't put your words in my mouth, even if you read my posts 100x, you won't even see that I said that.

just because they adapted Kamen Rider to the 21 century does not mean is not faithful. its still true to the action genre. so you think is an insult if people like Kiva more than Kuuga...or Kabuto more than Agito? really? just because they are not Showa riders????

Believe it or not, it is an insult when you compare them, but you constantly fail to grasp the reasoning that THEY ARE NOT COMPARABLE... Sheeesh...

is like me getting mad at Heath Ledger for playing a different Joker from Romero that played a totally different Joker (which I don't, I love both jokers)...same goes for W, in my opinion, W is way different than other riders...but its still a kamen rider...and its stays true to what it was meant to be...an action show for young adults, or teens. there is no rule book of how a kamen rider is supposed to be...its an idea that fans created to make walls for future kamen riders. and you are contradicting yourself by first saying you are ok with den-o, then you say den-o disonors the kamen rider name. so witch is it? and you are ignoring what I said, like I said...I don't go around comparing each and every rider...I love and respect every rider...I really like kuuga just like I like Agito...same goes for Den-O. but insulting fans of Den-O because they like it more than Kuuga....its wrong...and there is not dissonoring Kamen Rider's name...cause:

So is saying that Den-O is better than Kuuga/Agito. You were the first to cast the stone, not me. I did not contradict myself because I stuck to the idea that Den-O is a fun series to watch and is tolerable, but again IT IS NOT COMPARABLE with any other Heisei Riders. - How many times should I repeat this for you to understand? You were the one who said you liked Den-O more than Kuuga/Agito, which contradicts your post that Jack and Heath should not be compared since you are saying you like Den-O more than Kuuga/Agito, hence the analogy that it is like saying you like Heath over Jack even after you said that you like both.

1. Kamen Rider, a franchise does not have honor.
2. Fans created this honor...Kamen Rider was created to make money...to entertain kids and get ratings on tv.

1st, it does have honor enough for people to do this:

The cultural impact of the series in Japan resulted in Akimasa Nakamura naming two minor planets in honor of the series: 12408 Fujioka, after actor Hiroshi Fujioka, known for his portrayal of Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider 1, and 12796 Kamenrider, after the series, itself.

http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=12408+Fujioka

2nd, too much of something is bad enough, since Toei milked Den-O with merchandises too much it left a bad taste to most fans.

also...if...IF Den-O would have come out first in the showa era...if it would have been the first rider...then everything would be different, you would be saying that Kuuga is dissonoring Den-O...and that its an insult to have Agito and other riders have his name.

Yes it would have, and I believe nobody would have watched it because people liked the Showa-era series because of its darkness since it was created by the great Shotaro Ishinomori who is best at those kinds of stories. His manga wouldn't sell up to now if it wasn't what the people wanted. Besides, the term "Kamen Rider" is supposed to be about a masked vigilante riding bikes, but if it was Den-O first, then what we had back then was vigilantes riding locomotive trains chasing after the villain. Which would get old very easily.

Hmmmm... Does this answer your question?

I still liking Den-O more than Kuuga and Agito. not because of the comedy. the story, that's what kept me watching Den-O to the end

Den-O might have been the best rider show I seen, I seen it twice now, and I still have to finish Kuuga, Agito, Faiz, Hibiki and start with Ryuki and blade.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

with Kuuga and Agito, when they aired, it was like the first kamen riders...showa riders. but, like any network, it will try something new. so they used Kamen Rider's name since Ryuki. there is nothing wrong for being faightful. but there is also nothing wrong from being different to what you say it is the "true" kamen rider.

Ok, sorry for using the term "retarded". I said there is nothing wrong with Den-O, in fact, I did say that it was a breath of fresh air for me, hence my very first post in the thread:

It was just a "fun" series for me.

To those who haven't seen Den-O and Blade yet, may I suggest you watch Blade first then watch Den-O to lighten your mood.

Nope,

Christians = Fans

Faith in = Fan of

God = "Kamen Rider" itself

Hence me saying that it is weird for somebody to like the "Kamen Rider" franchise even though they didn't like Kuuga/Agito which gave justice to the image of the "Kamen Rider" and was faithfully intertwined in their stories.

The focus of which was the relationship between faithful Christians and God as to the relationship between Fans the and the "Kamen Rider" franchise.

I rest my case.

Whoa! This post almost hitted my Super "Defend Thy Faith" 753 mode instead of the usual "Flying in the Sky" mode 315 until I analyzed this in such an unbiased manner and BINGO! THIS is what I can call an awesome analogy.

Oh my goodness! With all that said, I am now certain that HJU has a lot of Den-O haters. This sucks to the max. :disappoin I always consider HJU as the #1 English Language (with a 2% Japanese in it) haven for all Kamen Riders and other tokusatsus but now, I am wrong.

it does not matter anyways, a site that has probably less than 3000 people who hates Den-O compare to a country that has OVER 9000 people who love Den-O does not make a difference.

by most fans you mean the fans here at HJU?? how do you know most fan had a were left with a bad taste? because I don't think the thousands of fans of Den-O where left with a bad taste in japan. you must be speaking for yourself then.

I am not speaking for myself for I do have most of Den-O's toys. I am from the Philippines and I have been to Japan, seeing that they have their own category of Otakus who love train-collecting, it is true that Den-O did easily appeal to them, but in an outsider's perspective who collect trains in moderation, I can see that Toei took advantage of Japan's love for train-collecting and Imagin personalities that can easily be linked to their popular folklore and can easily be related to due to Ryo's and Momo's "weakling" image which again appeals to the Japanese people and much of Asians like me as I mentioned in a different thread.

Yes a lot of Asians (specifically Japanese) loved Den-O, but it doesn't take away the fact that Toei took advantage of this by milking as much merchandise as they can, which also led to Kiva and Decade being too merchandise-based to the point of it being a total part of the story itself. There were also speculation that Toei did the "toy->story" strategy (design a toy first the write a story around it), so being a customer and a logical person who is not biased in a sense of liking the toys too much or not liking them at all, I can't help but see how Toei is treating the franchise by making it too merchandise-based (which also applies in Sentai's recent Go-Onger's and Shinkenger's clusterfuck mechas). Its like they are riding on the foundation built by decades of solid plotlines and stories by blatantly and shamelessly plugging their recent products.

Everything of course is IMHO.

Thankyouverymuch.
