Den-O: Why the criticism?

it does not matter anyways, a site that has probably less than 3000 people who hates Den-O compare to a country that has OVER 9000 people who love Den-O does not make a difference.

I see what you mean there however, Den-O still doesn't escape the "CASH COW CURSE" that made Kamen Rider into a bankload of merchies. Look man, I know I may not have any single one of those except for my Zeronos bottle cap stamp which is just a little in my collection but come on man! Kamen Rider isn't just a merchies-oriented series, it is about being a story driven show that again, the Showa and the first 2 Heisei Kamen Riders have that Den-O lacks.

Look at the perfect harmony between Bandai and Tsurubuya with the Ultraman and some more of Tsurubuya's stuffs, can anything be more awesome with balance?

by most fans you mean the fans here at HJU?? how do you know most fan had a were left with a bad taste? because I don't think the thousands of fans of Den-O where left with a bad taste in japan. you must be speaking for yourself then.

He's not alone, I am with him to point out the pros and cons that Den-O possesses as compared to his precursors. Look, I know that it has been repeated like 9000X here, I admit that Den-O is so fun to watch and the Denliner concept is extravagantly superb but look at the MAIN CHARACTER himself (Nogami Ryoutarou), he really needs to know how to fight with just plat form with badasseries. Again with the Kuuga VS Den-O stuff... Plat Form never beat a single kaijin if I remember correctly but Kuuga with Growing Form, killed one. See, a good Kamen Rider show consists of many elements, among them are:

  • Good Plot/ Solid Story
  • Good Character Development
  • Bike Scenes
  • Harmony between companies

Man stop using the term badasseries, it makes you sound juvenile D:

But I do agree with you to an extent that perhaps ryoutarou would have benefited from being a physically stronger person, but you can't really fault him for not fighting as platform, when he first had it he was no fighter and when he became good enough to fight liner form acted as his normal suit. Godai as a person alone is immensly talented and so has the confidence and skills to fight against a kaijin in whatever form.

But yes that is a rather good list there you have of a good series being balanced.

In short terms there is at least some level to which a more dramatic or if you must "darker" tone fits Kamen Rider and distinguishes it from the other two major toku franchises. This goes all the way back to the original series. However, that's not to say Kamen Rider is totally Serious Business 24/7 either. This is afterall a hero in a bug suit blowing up monsters. Hell, if you can't have fun with that..

Den-O is something that would have been better off allowed to be it's own thing rather than being passed off as a Kamen Rider show. Because it's just so aggressively and obnoxiously wacky as well as gimmicked in a way that doesn't really jibe at all with Kamen Rider. Visually, Den-O suits are a total f'n mess even while the monster suits are actually pretty good.

Now on the other hand we now have W which is fairly comedic itself but I think it handles its comedy in a way feels (and looks thanks to a better design sense) a bit more natural to Kamen Rider IMO.

good opinion, I respect it. Den-O is not for everybody, maybe they did take advantage...put time traveling train? the idea is awesome. I was not a train collector till I saw Den-O.

Thanks CA.

But a sidenote, Bike Scenes are enough for me. :castlerock:

You're welcome there musashi-san.

Bike scenes? Watch KRDK (even though it is American but because the Japaense embraced that, and so KRDK is OFFICIALLY PART OF THE FRANCHISE) EP 5 or EP 33 of KR Kuuga and see it yourself. Those were epic.

Well I can't help it. I may have overused an urban slang but at least it's in the appropriate way.

Now with Ryoutarou's part, a moderate amount of confidence building up each time he goes through, I think he may need the Imajins less. Look guys, if only Godai Kuuga went to Den-O no Sekai, then Ryoutarou Den-O could've been more mature nd confident in himself.

Let's just put Den-O in Shinji's (Ikari) place where he got an epic Bright Noa slap in the SRW series games that turned him into a better fighter later on. Man! I wish that Godai teaches Ryoutarou his ways in such a manner that Den-O will become what Master Keith Justice wants to see, a person whom he could look up to.

This is why I really wanted to see Decade go to the OU world of Kuuga to retrieve Godai Kuuga and bring him to any worlds out there (particularly to Den-O) to do something cooler that is just like what Onodera did but way better for indulging something while protecting the smiles of the others. Sigh, If only there was a cummulative teamwork from ze very beginning of the Heisei (Kuuga arrives to Agito and Agito with Kuuga goes to the Ryuki world and so on and so forth during the last parts of their own series) then Heisei would've been a more enjoyable era just like what the Showa did. A cross over with past Riders, exposing the enemy or do Justice against them all. Wow, I could now feel better if it weren't for such event.

Agreed. W= Made of 6 W-wi-WIN!:castlerock:

Well balanced series, Well written story, Well given bike scenes, Well executed acting, Well produced fight scenes and last but not the least, Well prepared series.

good list, well done.

but Plat Form was just a armor for show and ryotaro was your average pussy/wuss. Kuuga Growing form gave Godai strengh to move a truck, as seen in episode 1. Plat Form din't give Ryotaro anything. until he got Liner Form where he gain strenght to kill monsters and have his own final attack. and let us remember how badass he got when Yuuto disappear.

and love the jokes they pull out at the end for spinning around. random

all riders have some bike action....but kuuga is the only one that does it right. kudos to kuuga. there are 2 episodes in Den-O where it has awesome bike scenes, but not as good as kuuga. and Kiva only had 2 bike scenes.

yes, Den-O became a cash cow, but who can blame Toei for keep using it? if I'm the CEO of the company and see that this show is getting me tons of money then I will over use it. and it really does not bother me if it was milked.

IMO.

it was and it is a kamen rider, just without badass main character, and a time traveling train. and is your opinion, but the suits in den-o are awesome IMO. and Cho Climax form is amazing IMO

Which is why Den-O should've been somewhat humor-filled but badass. Look at what W has made, action + humor + acting + directing... That's what I can call a revived new Kamen Rider show.

The suits and the gears made no sense. All the forms, belt buttons and weapons were pre-packaged long before Ryo even met Momo, much less the other three Taros. To see Axe Form's front on Sword Form's back long before Kintaros even shows up, for instance, is just very jarring to the logic.
