Mirai Sentai Timerager: Thoughts&Opinions

.As a child, I never really focused on the fact that Ryuuya was sending stuff back into the past and that no one knew who was sending the TimeRangers their mecha. I need to watch Gingaman again, but Kobayashi sorta did the same thing with OOO and giving us something to think about in the pilot episode. In OOO, it was the grasshopper yummy telling Eiji he would regret being OOO (which I think about now, hasn't been elaborated on except for the fact that he goes on a rampage) and for Time it was the question of who is sending stuff back into the past.

Actually it was the Mantis Yummy. The Hopper Yummy was the one playing Kamen Rider, "Toh!" and all.

. Gien kinda reminds of a Maki if he wasn't in a show like OOO.

I haven't thought of that. It is too bad, as I liked Gien and think Maki is a big waste.

. Watching Goukaiger right now, I noticed how incredibly early 6th debuts are. I mean, Naoto debuts almost 3/5 of the way through TimeRanger, and we get GokaiSilver at episode 16? Times have changed for sure.

Actually, both Zyuranger and Dairanger had early debuts of their 6ths too. So you could say that this is a homage. :P

Ah, I see. I just kept on wondering when TimeFire would debut.

I like when the 6th senshi introduction is integral to the plot. It gives his appearance more meaning. Burai being the brother of Geki, Kou being a Gooma, Hyuuga being Ryouma's long lost brother, all those things. It doesn't feel tacked on, and I like that. Naoto is no exception, and he is definitely an interesting 6th. I like how he has a strained relationship with Tatsuya and his desperate search for glory leads him to become more of an antagonistic 6th. A better AbareKiller. The whole plot surrounding the mysterious appearance of V-Rex and the TimeFire suit is fascinating. Gotta love it. It's gonna suck when he dies.

I personally love Ryuuya, I mean, he is the true villain of the series. And he's an ordinary human!!!

Ryuuya's an effective villain because he's human. He's got an interesting motivation that goes beyond "I want to wreck ****." A typical failing of Super Sentai is that, in the end, the final villain ends up being just a particularly tough Monster of the Week.

I just like it when someone manipulates everyone; the villains, the main characters etc for the own needs. Ryuuya orchestrated Dorunero's escape, V-Rex's appearance in 2000 and Naoto's death all to keep himself alive, and I just thought that to be the most diabolical thing anyone can do. It's a bit more...complex than just wanting to dominate the world. It feels more...real and scary to me..

Watching Tatsuya and Yuuri's romance bloom...I lament at the fact that Kiva's romance wasn't anything like this. Maybe it was because of the two time periods...but I haven't seen Jetman yet, and despite the controversial ending, were Kaori and Ryu just like this? I'm a sucker for romances haha. They should have romances in Sentai again between senshi.

I enjoy Dorunero having somewhat of a moral compass when he shuts down Gien because he was becoming a danger to the people and stuff. Even though he is ultimately evil, he does have morals.

Ayase speaks just like Joe. It's uncanny. Except I definitely prefer Ayase's incurable disease to Joe's Zangyack past.

There is something about Domon, that I really can't put my finger on that I enjoy. Maybe we need a another male yellow? We haven't had one since GaoYellow. Maybe it's because he falls in love too, and it's not just the reds that fall in love.

Onto to the last 9. Gosh, I'm getting sad because it's almost over...

I'd say...no, not really. You'd never, ever, ever know that Ryu even liked Kaori. He goes for the whole series acting like she doesn't exist -- especially since his mind's still on Rie/Maria -- and then at the last minute they try to pretend like something's there. It's just horribly executed. It's like...the way Gai practically stalks Kaori, Kaori stalks Ryu, and while Gai knows when to fold 'em, Kaori doesn't. It just made it seem to me like "Grr! Rich girl MUST GET HER WAY!!!!!!"

ONORE INOUE!!!!!!!! There's nothing worse than a forced romance. Gah, I will still watch Jetman but gargh. Inoue....

Don't forget that Raita also had a thing for Kaori. But let's face it - aside from her bourgeois background, why would they want her? She's not attractive at all. Would've made more sense if there was a developing relationship between Ryu and Commander Aya (who is 100x hotter than Kaori).

I think Kaori's pretty good looking, but I thought every male character in the show going for her was just too much. When I first saw that episode that revealed Raita had a thing for her...I was just like, "OK, so when will Ako reveal her love for Kaori? And Tetra Boy?" Raita was overkill, especially when he already had his lifelong love, Satsuki.
