The Wrestling Thread: 1...2...Only 2!

I just watched the beginning of Rocky III where Stallone has the exhibition match against Thunderli.. er... Hogan. It's hilarious to think of Hulk Hogan actually being able to beat another wrestler, let alone a heavyweight boxing champion. I'm sure they were trying to invoke the excitement and unpredictability of actual crossover matches like Muhammad Ali vs. Antonio Inoki, but I couldn't help but giggle a little hearing the announcers try to hype Hogan's character up ("standing at nearly 7' tall, weighing in at a staggering 390 lbs!") while watching him tiptoe around the ring in his battle-briefs flipping his bleached blond locks around.

Okay, I just watched my first episode of TNA and I only got twenty minutes in before I deleted it off my computer

Can someone PLEASE explain to me the point of Ric Flair preforming wrestling manuvers on Foley's book and Flair and Foley punching each other on the face for no reason?

My god, who does the creative writing on this show?! 5 year olds?

Makes me wonder how in the hell WCW topped WWF in the first place

The reason why WCW beat out the WWF for 52 - 54 weeks (dunno how much, but it was within that range I'm sure) straight in the Monday Night War Ratings can be summed up in 3 Letters

n(ew)
W(orld)
o(order)

Makes me wonder how in the hell WCW topped WWF in the first place

When Eric Bischoff was in charge, WCW was putting out a lot of great stuff like the nWo (featuring Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Macho Man and many more), Sting, DDP, Goldberg, the cruiserweights, the Lucha Libre wrestlers, stuff like that. And it was actually better than the WWF during its "New Generation" era, which explains why WCW was dominating in the ratings for a while.

They were winning for about 82-84 weeks in a row.
