I don't remember the first Toku I watched because I was a kid when I did, but my family had collections of Thai Dubbed Tokusatsu series. They basically had EVERY thing until before Kuuga, because that was where a lot of things went on hold. As I grew a bit older, around five years old, tired from watching everything, I found Gaia, Kuuga, and TimeRanger at a store. They all became my faves since.
Dude, I'm lucky I got an amazing job that allows me to. 60% of the **** I've been able to watch is thanks to it. I think I'm at about 120 completed toku shows at this point. Don't ask me on other tv shows or movies.
As a kid, I had no idea what toku was when my first tokus were Ultaman Ace, Koseidon, Shaider, Maskman and Kamen Rider BLACK. when I found out about them at supersentai.com, that's where I got reunited with my childhood series and more than what I expected, thus why I loved toku- any toku- currently.
As far as tokusatsu series, Ultraman original was what I first seen and was hooked on (dubbed). Also Kaiketsu Lion Maru was on the local international station RAW and used to watch that was well and loved it as a kid not knowing WTF was being said. Ahhh the good old days.
I think my first 3 Toku series were Ultraman, Tiga and Dyna dubbed in Cantonese. Though, that was like 11-12 years ago. I didn't even know about the word "tokusatsu" back then. It wasn't until 2009 I started watching Tokusatsu again through Ultraman Nexus.
I'm telling my age here, but for me, it was the original Ultraman,(watching on WPHL-TV back in the day) then I stuck around to watch The Space Giants (aka Magma Taishi). I didn't know what toku was until I too, got hooked on Kamen Rider Black. The Super Sentais followed thereafter.
