How do you reply to people who thinks Toku are for kids?

Of which series? For Wing there were two versions of the dub, an edited and uncut version but the difference was minimal. Blood was edited out but not by a noticeable rate like you'd see in a 4kids edit and only a few lines were changed like Heero would say "I'll destroy you" instead of "I'll kill you". Same goes for 0079 and G. But yeah its still not something that would harm the plot.

Am I the only one who thinks "I'll destroy you" sounds nastier than "I'll kill you"?

Anyway, I think the Gundam franchise had some of the better dubs I've seen. The voice acting isn't nearly as stilted as it often is in dubs.

Fine I yield I yield . You guys win. Gundam is for kids. I should have known better. Case close.:rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

People usually say the stuff that i am into are for kids and all but i just shrug and ignore them ... i rather not start an argument over a "kids show"

If anybody critisized me for watching a kid's show, then all I can do is ignore him and continue watching. What's the point in critisizing people for watching kid's show when they're probably watching garbage like Big Brother anyway. Heck I even watch Ojamajou Doremi and I'm proud of it!! :D

You're right about that.

There are children programme in this world(especially from Japan) that I considered high quality than series from America and Britain.

I just ignore people who considered tokusatsu for children and just asked them to mind their own business.

"Showa era Kamen Rider is also known as Hirayama Kamen Rider since he was the "Father of Kamen Rider". All the ideas of Kamen Rider are from Hirayama and Ishinomori just helping him to create the character."

Nah, not really, I think it was ingrained in my psyke very early on that "Destroy" was the kiddy term for "kill."

Of course I don't think I really understood it until one of the Animorphs books (I can't remember which one). There was a line "I'm going to destroy them. No, destroy is a kids word. I'm going to KILL them!"

It really set it home, and still to this day I love the animorphs series, and I'll tell anyone who'll listen that its a PRIME example of how kids media can be done RIGHT. Right up there with the DCAU stuff.

I would that "destroy" has a certain theatricality to it that can be really effective but a lot of people prefer "kill" because they think it's darker or more "realistic".

To me it depends on how the delivery is and also who is actually saying it. For example I think it loses someting if a street thug says "destroy" instead of "kill" but if a Sentai villain or Doctor Doom or General Zod says it then has the weight it needs.

I think "destroy" in a dramatic sense implies that what the villain is about to do is more than just taking a life but the destruction someones being physically or otherwise.

Getting back on topic for a moment..

The first thing is there is nothing wrong with it being for kids.

The second thing is, it's not *just* for kids.

Both as adults and Americans (or whatever your non-Japanese country of origin) we're not THE target but Toei is aware of a broader audience even if they know little Japanese boys are where the cash money is. Otherwise Kamen Rider would just be Barney with henshin belts.

Wether it be older kids/teenagers, longtime fans, or even casual viewers who may decide to check out a current series or housewives who watch with their kids and become just as invested in the stories (or the actors).

Thirdly the idea of the superhero is something that can be enjoyed by the young and the young at heart. It's not something that needs to be overly grimdarked to justify adults being into it nor overly santitized and candy coated to justify kids getting into it. There is a balance that's not that hard to achieve and both superhero stories and henshin hero at their best can do exactly that even when they may lean darker or lighter in tone.
