Anyone else thinks that Jetman is somewhat overrated by the toku fandom?

I've only seen about 6 episodes of the show, and it seems fine, but the mentor, Captain Odagiri, is a bit of a psychopath, and a bad actress. Look at the episode where she's training Raito, Ako, and Kaori to fight in the beginning. She's constantly chews the scenery.

I think a big problem is the actress is too young to play the character -- she's supposed to be much older, obviously, and the actress is just three years older than Hawk, so she can't quite pull the character off.

That's the thing. Jetman in general (sans Ryu) has the most inexperienced team ever in Super Sentai history (probably more so than the Gaorangers, the Kakurangers, & the Goseigers) in terms of fighting.

add in the carrangers. they couldnt fight worth **** outside of their costumes and had little to no athletic abilities. megaranger, they were using kouichiros idea of a training regimine.

along with ryu being formally trained, kaori had a kendo background. gai was a street fighter who progressively became more refined, etc. but the birdonic waves also gave them super abilities outside of costume. ako could jump nearly 3 meters and gai was able to stop a truck with his bare hands.

but the series became popular with mostly older audiences with japan at the time. a lot of it had to do with it being an inspiration from gatchaman and of course the darker story telling though other past sentai series were also pretty dark such as bioman.

jetman is my personal favorite super sentai series so far (all ive seen along with jetman are bioman, zyuranger, dairanger, kakuranger, ohranger, carranger, megaranger, and gokaiger). i think gai is a bad ass character and i think he has cool clothes lol. but i enjoyed how the characters interacted with one another and i thought the villains were great and i enjoyed the action. i loved the final fight between gai and grey and is one of my top favorite fights along with jin vs ryo from dairanger and the final burai and geki from fight from zyuranger.

As with most of Inoue's creations, Jetman starts off as a show that really wants to go for something big, but then it ends up tripping over its own drama, which hurts the story.
I tend to put Liveman over it. While having more filler, Liveman at least knew where it was going the whole time, and it didn't try too hard to be dramatic.
Jetman had a nice build-up, which kinda died out as the show went on.

Jetman's saving grace was gai, who is the Sentai equivalent of Wolverine, and I don't think the show would have been as popular as it was without him.
When you say "Jetman", everyone will instantly remember "Black Condor"

Gai was an amazing character done by an amazing actor, and he absolutely stole the whole show, and was even close to stealing most of the focus for the last episodes, and he was one of the reasons I continued to watch the show.

I would easily put Ryu on a level with Gai, the thing is that Gai tends to be better remembered because he died, and because of all the drinking and womanizing which makes him "cool" in the eyes of fandom. The other heroes suffer in comparison - Kaori gets shunted into the damsel role a lot, and Ako and Raita are often out of focus due to the love triangle.

I kinda feel like a lot of people take Jetman a bit too seriously. I mean, it gets overpraised, which is then met with plenty of backlashing, and the cycle continues.

When it comes to most Jetman discussions, it's usually just about the finale, or how the love stories turned out. I feel like there's a lot of detail in Jetman that kinda gets forgotten, since a lot of people are busy discussing about Jetman's worthiness as a "legendary sentai status."

And whenever Jetman's humor is talked about, all that ever gets mentioned is Noodle Jigen, Dryer Jigen, and Tomato King.

Like, I NEVER hear anyone talk about Tran. Am I the only one who thought the Jetman fighting him and his psychokinetic powers was actually cool? There were some neat special effects used.

I definitely liked Tran and his powers and such, and I didn't like his transformation into Tranza; they didn't do a good job building up to it and afterwards he became a second Radiguet which really reduced the diversity of the Vyram by a lot.

I think Tran's transformation into Tranza was one of the best plots in Jetman. Yeah Tranza was another Radiguet, but it made for an interesting rivalry between him and Radiguet. I think it was an interesting clash between the two. It also helps that Tranza was played by Yukata Hirose.

i dont remeber the dudes name, but the guy who played tranza was 100x more bad ass as jin in dairanger. thats for damn sure. but when he was trying to out do in picking up chicks at golf, his taste in clothes were god awful. he even looks worse than the japanese men today who look like goddamn women. gai kind of reminds me of an old school bad ass yakua.

im cool with people calling jetman overrated and i see their point of view. im still relatively new to sentai but jetman ive really enjoyed a lot and do see why this series is praised. im really into old school stuff and anime so jetman has qualities that really appealed to me. jetman was like the 5th series i watched. all ive seen along with jetman is just zyuranger, dairanger, kakuranger, ohranger, carranger, megaranger, gokaiger, and bioman and currently watching gobuster and will start timeranger in the coming days. plus, i do my own review show of sentai on youtube.

Jetman DOES have plenty of fun plots. Like, I REALLY loved the Veronica Arc.
