Do you think Toei will ever put older Sentai stuff on Blu-Ray?

I want some of these awesome Blu-rays but I'm not totally sold on RAWs yet. :disappoin

Damn if I just knew enough Japanese to understand. I know I can read a synopsis of a particular episode or movie, but I don't know how I'd deal with not knowing anything that was being said (except for a word or two here and there) while actually actively watching.

I think the Sentai series could make it to Blu soon and probably will. However, I would feel better with the chances if they had started with releasing the older series on Blu.

From what I know about film transfers for HD and how shows were edited and transferred, Goranger-Dairanger would probably be the easiest as they were most likely shot, edited, and visual effects done on film and only need a rescan of the film. From Kakuranger to Magiranger, there maybe more problems, as the episodes seemed to have been finished on video. While rescanning the film and re-cutting it to match won't be a problem, the visual effects need to be redone, from the footage of the models/heroes needing to be recomposited to the CG (most likely rendered in 480i/p) being redone. I know this because I'm a Star Trek fan and Star Trek: The Next Generation faces the same problems. After Boukenger, it shouldn't be a problem, depending if they were finished in 720p or 1080p (Bouken and Geki being the prime suspects).

This is all conjecture on my part, as I have no idea what processes the production team used and I'm just guessing. I'm just saying what I do know and educated guesses. Here's where I got most of my knowledge and opinions about HD rescanning came from:

All in all, I think it's extremely likely we'll get all the series, but some of them are more likely to come than the others. It should just be a matter of time. We're more likely to get the movies for all of them before the shows, especially the Kaku-Magi area, since the movies should likely have been done in a high enough resolution to go to theaters.

I would imagine that they might start doing it at...some point. Gokagier is going to be the first Sentai series released on Blu-ray, so I would think anything would be possible. Though it might take a while, isn't the restoration process rather intensive?

I wouldn't say Gokaiger would be the first Blu series until Toei's gives some news. Granted, Kamen Rider OOO getting series Blus could be a good enough justification, so there is a decent chance. Having said that, I am really hoping Gokaiger makes it to Blu. Pretty much all the Sentai would look great, but any Sentai from the 2000s should look even more awesome, especially Gokaiger. Plus, the show is awesome storywise, which would make the Blus even more awesome.

As for the series itself being released on Blu Ray, Gokaiger will be the first to get the treatment ...

As for the rest of the series, i can see it happening ... they may decide to sell it as a Blu Ray Boxset but mind you, its gonna cost lots of yen ... even more expensive than the Ultraman Cosmos Memorial Box coming out in July, maybe, no ?

Possible, but I would put safe money on individual volumes like the DVDs. Just my guess. Again, I think it be hard to try and guess. I rather wait for news from Toei and think about the video/audio quality and any new extras. :)

oh...my...GOOOOODDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :castlerock: :buttrock: :castlerock: :buttrock:  :) YES!!!!! Thanks for the heads up. I am stoked. I took the liberty to (Google) translate some of it, like the special features.

I checked the list of movies and I think we might get Goranger and JAKQ on Blu-Ray, as the movies that were just episodes of those shows aren't included. Could be nothing, but it seems weird when they were included on the DVD.

Even if those movie episodes aren't included, great news. While I wouldn't call the 35th series getting a Blu release, I just knew some of the older Sentai films would get Blu releases. This makes Blus of the series more likely. Happy news. :castlerock: (If you heard girlish screaming, very likely it was me.)

Sorry for the double post and slight off topicness, but I think the 40th anniversary of Kamen Rider is having the same effect as the 35th anniversary of Super Sentai (besides a major team-up movie with all the Riders and Warriors in their respective films): classic Kamen Rider on Blu-Ray. :castlerock:

Granted, not Sentai like the title, but Rider fans were waiting just like us. Granted, they got Heisei films, but that doesn't help those who hate the Heisei shows. More great news.

Well I'm excited for the SS Movie Box, although they left out the Battle fever J Movie, which is only included in the Toei Hero Movie Box DVD set. WHY TOEI, WHY?!

That was another movie that came from an episode. I guess Toei doesn't want to include the TV episodes, since it would be double dipping if the shows get Blu releases. Granted, Battle Fever J doesn't get an HD debut while Goranger and JAKQ do, but it would be one of the easier series to get a Blu release.

To everyone who said Gokaiger would be the first series to be on Blu, I'll be quiet. :)

The Blu-ray set doesn't include any of the movies that were just TV episodes blown up for the big screen, which is why there's only one Goranger title; there were several Goranger adventures on the big screen, but only one was made for the big screen -- the others were just reformatted episodes.

In addition to those Goranger movies, JAKQ's solo movie, Battle Fever J's movie and Flashman's second movie were also all just TV episodes. (Flashman's second movie is actually two or three episodes edited into one movie.) Although the reformatted episodes were part of the Super Sentai the Movie DVD set, they're not a part of the Blu-ray one...

I checked just to make sure when I saw Dr. Kain's comment. I didn't realize until now that Flashman also had reformatted episodes as a movie. No idea why Toei is not including the TV episode-movies but I'm willing to believe that Toei has some inkling of a plan to release some of the series to Blu. Even if they have no series Blu plans (outside of Gokaiger, of course ), Toei seems to be making sure they're is no double dipping in case there are series Blus. It seems the lack of the episode-movies cuts a disc (DVD's 4 compared to Blu-Ray's 3). Toei may've just wanted to cut a disc as well as not cause a double dip in case of a series Blu.

Forgive me, but this really isn't that big a deal to me. Yeah, it would be nice to have them, but they're from the Sentai series that are most likely the easiest to put on Blu (no editing/special effects on video involved, just film), so the odds are good we'll still see these adventures on Blu-Ray somewhat soon. Besides, with the exception of Battle Fever J (which wasn't on the last Sentai movie set anyway), all the Sentai teams that lose episode-movies still have movies on the set (though, I admit, JAKQ has to share their sole film with Goranger). We'll still get to see these heroes in HD, so we still win.
