In the first episode of See You in My 19th Life, we meet Ban Ji-Eum as a child; an extremely talented child. They called her the Girl-of-All-Trades because she could do many things, including flamenco dancing. (In one of her lives, she was a flamenco dancer in Spain.) Her talents help her earn money, however, her father, who is a drunkard and a gambler, squanders all of her earnings.

This is my first time watching a Korean drama that started off with a song and dance routin in the first episode. It took me completely by surprise. Because it was so unusual, my immediate inclination was to switch off and watch another K-drama series. But my second mind told me not to be so judgemental It might actually get interesting. I m glad that I followed my second mind, because the storyline for The Sound of Magic was totally unexpected.
Woo Do-hwan started acting in 2011 and was able to land roles, playing lead and supporting characters in numerous films and television series. His fans patiently waited for him to complete his two-year mandatory military service. After being discharged from the military in 2022, he made a cameo appearance in the last episode of Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist Season 2 (2023), and played the lead role in Joseon Attorney: A Morality (2023); two historical period K-dramas. He was cast for the lead role in Bloodhounds, released in June 2023. Fans are delighted that he’s back!
Kim Woo-bin started acting in 2011 and no sooner than he had developed a fan base, 5+ years later his health took a turn for the worse. In 2017, he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer. He took time off to focus on his health. The good news is that the medical treatment he received has helped him to recover (Kim Woo-bin says he’s “clean” from cancer, …) and in 2022 he resumed his acting career. He completed three (3) projects in 2022: a film, Alienoid, and a TV series, Our Blues, both released in 2022; and Black Knight, which was released in 2023. Fans are more than overjoyed that he has returned to the screen.
In the first film, Kim Ja Hong (played by Cha Tae Hyun, “Brain Works”) is a courageous firefighter who died in the line of duty. When he enters the afterlife he finds himself being escorted by a team of guardians. They inform him that he died and that he must go through seven (7) otherworldly courts. In each court, there are specific things that he has done in his life and he will either be judged innocent or guilty.
Kang Han-Soo (played by Woo Do-Hwan, “My Country: The New Age”; “The King: Eternal Monarch”) was supposed to be dead. His father was falsely accused and executed. The false accusers then went to his home and killed his mother by hanging her, making it appear as a suicide. The people behind the brutal murder of his parents believed that he had died when their home was burned down. But he survived, grew up, and studied to become a lawyer.
Kang Tae-moo’s grandfather wants him to marry so that hopefully he will see his grandchild before he departs this life. But Tae-moo has “issues” and does his best to avoid marriage. Cha Sung-hoon is not just loyal and trustworthy as a secretary, but also as a brother. Since Tae-moo spends all of his time working, and Sung-hoon is always by his side, that means he works equally as hard.
Lembrary (played by Kim Min Kyu) is a loyal and pure high priest who serves the god Redlin. When he is not ridding his country of evil demons, he is using his gift to heal others. It’s his calling. Right at the precise moment that he is about to eliminate the Devil, he gets a splitting headache. When he opens his eyes and can see clearly he is immodestly dressed in black. Immodest? OK. Shameful. Yeah. Shameful is a better description for his clothing. I mean … he’s a high priest and his bare abdomen is showing.
These evil spirits or demons roam the earth here and there and hop from body to body. Each time they find a new host body, they grow stronger. They advance in levels.
The tale’s main character is Jeon Nokdu (played by Jang Dong Yoon). The series begins with intense action-packed fight scenes. A group of female assassins shows up at Nokdu’s home. Their mission is to kill everyone who lives there; in particular, Nokdu. This home invasion is not just frightening but confusing. Nokdu and his family were commoners, living on an island that people rarely visit. Why send a team of assassins to kill an unimportant family?
All of us are Dead is another Korean horror series that is based on a Webtoon. Webtoons are South Korean Webcomics that become a rabbit hole for Netflix to make adaptations. Back in 2009, Now at Our School by Joo Dong-Geun got viral and it got a successful run that ended in 2011. This show is based on that successful webtoon. The success of horror webtoon adaptations like Sweet Home and Hellbound inspired Netflix to do more live-action adaptations of Webtoons.
