Games Done Quick Presents: Corona Relief Done Quick
To the surprise of no one, Games Done Quick has decided to postpone its summer charity event. The plan is still to hold it in the summer, but around August instead of June, assuming things get somewhat better by then. But wait a minute…if there was ever a time we needed a charity event that attracts millions of viewers AND dollars, it’s now, right? That’s what GDQ was thinking too. Presenting Corona Relief Done Quick: three days of nonstop video game speedrunning by the world’s fastest button mashers, only this time streamed live from their own houses instead of in a hotel ballroom. Just like in the regular GDQ, there will be giveaways, special showcases and incentives that can only be met if donations cross a certain threshold. The organization benefiting is Direct Relief, described by GDQ as a humanitarian group that “improve[s] the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.” For a lineup pulled together at the last minute, CRDQ’s sounds pretty excellent.
