Ordinarily Games Done Quick waits until summer to launch their summer-branded marathon, but this year they’re getting started early. SGDQ 2023 starts this Sunday, May 28, decidedly late spring. It’s the earliest SGDQ ever; hopefully it won’t catch people off-guard or result in lower donation numbers.
Somehow, they pulled it off: Summer Games Done Quick returned for another week and took in 2.3 million for Doctors Without Borders, while operating entirely remote. It had to be done, and while the crowds were missed, there were fewer glitches and hiccups than the previous time they tried this.
It’s back! The pandemic has crushed many things, but not even its forces can take down GDQ! Another marathon begins this weekend, though it will look a bit different than what we’re used to.
THREE MILLION DOLLARS! Summer Games Done Quick shattered their previous record late last night (which was 2.5 million, set at AGDQ just six months ago). The video game charity speedrunning event pulled in $3,004,039 for Doctors Without Borders by the time the feed was shut off, and when the final count is made it may be higher. Even more remarkable: that extra million was generated entirely within the last day of the marathon.
Be sure to be at your computer starting June 23….or your TV, or your phone, or anything that can pick up a Twitch feed. Games Done Quick is back, in its “summer” flavor, for more frantic marathon tear-downs of your favorite video games. Our advice: watch SGDQ on your TV if you have access to a Twitch app that’ll work there; it makes everything more epic.
The summer incarnation of Games Done Quick is off and running! The world’s most skilled game players are breaking your favorite games as fast as possible in a week-long marathon, streamed live on Twitch! There are contests and prizes involved as well. As for the charity, every summer for the past few years has raised cash for Doctors Without Borders, and this year is no different. Watch great games be annihilated and make a tax-deductible donation.
