Summer Games Done Quick Begins This Weekend
Be sure to be at your computer starting June 23….or your TV, or your phone, or anything that can pick up a Twitch feed. Games Done Quick is back, in its “summer” flavor, for more frantic marathon tear-downs of your favorite video games. Our advice: watch SGDQ on your TV if you have access to a Twitch app that’ll work there; it makes everything more epic.
For those new to the event, Summer Games Done Quick 2019 is the latest in a semi-annual string of charity speedruns where the best game players in the world pile into a hotel ballroom and tear through the world’s most popular and beloved games as quickly as possible, utilizing glitches (when allowed) and quick reflexes to make short work of your childhood. It’s all live, amazing to watch, and for a good cause. Games Done Quick has raised millions for Doctors Without Borders, and they’ll be doing so again.
This year, we have Sonic Generations, Devil May Cry and Zelda: Minish Cap on Day 1, Castlevania and Contra blocks on Day 2, a Legend of Zelda Randomizer Race on Day 3, and a Link to the Past + Super Metroid Combo Randomizer on Day 7 — what even is that?? You’ll have to watch or you’ll never know.
Summer Games Done Quick 2019 lasts from Sunday, June 23 to Saturday, June 30. To date, this marathon, its winter sibling and assorted special events have raised over 19 million dollars for charity, and are currently the largest fundraising event for both Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
