What makes a Toku too Toyetic

Every Rider belt since Ryuki.

Every season that uses cards/keys/"medals"/"fuestles"/figurines with the tech to transform or perform an action.

Kyoryured Carnival.

Most of the Go-Busters arsenal.

Every Rider form that combines all the existing forms into one.

The Go-Busters arsenal is very bare-bones with barely any gimmicks. You'd do better pointing at Kyoryuger (though I do like the Zyudenchi as far as gimmicks go).

 

[Glamador]

The overuse of Hyper Kabuto's perfect zecter finishers always struck me as overly toyetic. Part of this comes from a few strange moments like when on different occasions Drake and Sasword are robbed of their zecters in the midst of battle so that Kabuto can use it.

I'd argue that quite a lot of Kabuto is overly toyetic. The Cast Off Armor never seemed like it served any purpose to me. It supposedly granted better defense at the cost of speed...but that was only ever a plot point once I think...maybe twice. And then there's the sporadic existence of Drake...

As for stealing Zecters mid-battle...that's kinda just Tendou's thing, I think.

i think go-onger was actually the most fun sentai series in terms of gimmicks because you didnt have to keep swapping out engine souls in every episode, it was actually well balanced series. nothing against kyokyuger, i love that series alot, i think they just got too carried away with the batteries in every episode, where it's just confusing on what battery is used.

go-onger was a well balanced series with the toys and storyline which i loved.

I'd argue that quite a lot of Kabuto is overly toyetic. The Cast Off Armor never seemed like it served any purpose to me. It supposedly granted better defense at the cost of speed...but that was only ever a plot point once I think...maybe twice. And then there's the sporadic existence of Drake...

As for stealing Zecters mid-battle...that's kinda just Tendou's thing, I think.

The Cast Off thing was basically mimicing the molting of the Worm puppa into their adult form.

The Cast Off Armor never seemed like it served any purpose to me.

Plus it mimicks the idea of emerging from a cacoon, which ties in with the insect theme...kind of. I can't think of an insect that they used as a Riders' totem bug that actually has a cacoon stage :eyebrow: But it's one of those well-known "facts" about insects. The Masked Form is Metapod, the Rider Form is Butterfree :anime:

All insect undergo metamorphosis, just not all of them include the chrysalis stage.

While Neo Heisei stuff is usually more toyetic than regular Heisei rider, I feel like its usually integrated pretty well (like multiple forms, etc.) However, I've always felt that the droids always exist just to be sold. Usually the first few they introduce are used regularly in the show, but later ones just are there to be there. For example, the Food-droids weren't integrated that well beyond maybe the Hamburger one, and the newer Can-droids were almost never used either.

I feel in general W integrated their droids the best, and Toei just sorta mandated that future Kamen Rider series have similar things because the originals sold like hotcakes. Its kinda bizarre that Gaim doesn't have any though, but I guess that's a good sign. I mean, Gaim doesn't really have any Gaia Memories or Switches or anything that it would need to package with extraneous toys, since the Lockseeds seem like they'll mostly be sold with their belt or on their own anyway.
