What makes Toku less acceptable than Marvel?

It didn't do well because 4Kids' rules restricted it. Then there's the weird alien heads that were completely unnecessary combined with 4Kids' negative profits and the people who hate their guts.

"Oh, it is just a copy of Power rangers. So gay"
"Oh look, its Power Rangers!"
"Is this the Japanese version of Power Rangers?"

We know those replies very well, and I could understand that people would reply with these if they saw Sentai, but the fact is, that they will give this reply to almost any Toku show they see except for Godzilla.
Now, I do understand that some Toku shows can be a little bit silly, and the special effects may not always be top-notch, but when I sit down and compare Toku to the western super hero franchise, I fail to see the logic.

Most of our heroes wear tight body suits. Wearing their "underwear" on the outside of their clothes is fairly common too.
Then you have a toku hero like Garo, wearing a fully armored metal-suit. There is NO trace of spandex ANYWHERE. Yet, people will STILL say "This is like Power Rangers... gay"

Am I blind? HOW can people compare that to PR? What MAKES them compare it? It is the same deal with KR. They have armored leather suits, just like the newer Batman designs have.
Are they compared to Batman or Iron Man? No. They are compared to... POWER RANGERS.
Even Metal Heroes get the PR-stamp, and they are even further away from Sentai than KR is.

What are your theories on this? Is it really the rubber suits that make the whole difference?
Garo used full CGI for the monsters, just like most Hollywood movies do today, yet it was still labeled as another PR-copy.

I wonder... let us say that we had a KR show were every villain was a human wearing a costume, would it still be seen as Power rangers, or would people actually accept it?

Dunno 'bout you but I think Kamen Rider looks nothing like Power Rangers or Super Sentai. When did a Power Ranger look like a man with an insect's head riding a motorbike?

It's amazing and sad how so many people think of Tokusatsu this way. But.. why the hell "Gay"? Why do people think that Power Rangers are sexually attracted to men? What about the Pink and Yellow Rangers? Are they Lesbians?

I have to congratulate Johnathon Ross though. Despite being a celebrity from Great Britain, a country who never heard of Tokusatsu, when he did his bit on Japanorama about Ultraman, there was NO MENTION of Power Rangers. It was just Ultraman, Ultraman Ultraman.

"Gay" has just become a slang synonym for "I don't like it," along the lines of "stupid" and "lame." I'm not a fan of that usage but it's pretty hard to stem the tide at this point in time.

It's not the suits mind you, people cream their pants on similar looking suits like Iron man and Master Chief all the time yet Kabutos awesome suit is gay and stupid.
I think with Iron Man it is more forgiving because it has beter cgi and with Master Chief it is in a video game were the audience is much more forgiving then the movie audience.
It had no redeeming qualities other then the fact that it sold toys. Ninja Turtles had the comic books, Transformers had the movie, Power Rangers had nothing that had even a dot of wit or integrity to it. it was just a gigantic toy commercial with lame acting, cheesy dialogue and stupid stupid storylines.
I hope your talking abouth the animated movie because most fans hate Transformers 2.( and some also the first one which i thought was okay/meh.)
Also isn,t when you come down to it every sentai a giant toy commercial?
I mean it is nice that they throw in stories that we can enjoy but there main goal is not to bring a good story to the table, it is mostly to sell more toys and when it gets good praise fore the story that is just a little extra fore them.
If Toei cared abouth the story i don,t think we would have problems like Hibiki's second half or some of the plotholes in Decade (or other seasons.)
Honestly, Power Rangers was such a stupid dumb show that it drew no adults into it and layering the digging the ditch even deeper. If it wasn't for that show, toku super hero shows would be in the exact same vein as Godzilla was, but now it's always connected to power rangers.
I don,t think Saban or Toei are really focusing into bringing adults into the show except maybe fanservices so that some 30+ year old moms/dads watch the show with her/his child.
I don,t think that TOku superhero shows would be viewed in a more serious light even if power rangers where never made and sentai would have been brought over to US dubbed or subbed.
People would not even know what it is because it would never found its way on Fox Kids without being horribly edit ( it would most likely have aired on some b movie channel) and if they did find out abouth it they would just make the same jokes only saying Super Sentai instead of Power Rangers.
I think ryuuseipro said it best as to why most people don,t like Toku super hero shows:
People just don't like colorful superheroes looking/acting like they should. Especially all Japanese superheroes. They were always considered a "camp" concept, by those who prefer "fine" work.

I find that kids are much more acceptable of KR and Sentai than adults, so I made my little sister a KR fan and she now pushes it to her friends.
I guess my idea is if enough peopel watch it, they'll stop comparing it.
I managed to get a few of my friends hooked on KAbuto and Kiva.
You have to aim at an anime crowd to get peopel to undertsnad Toku I think.
Someone who likes Super Robots is more liekly to see Sentai as something interesting than some jackass who can't wait for the Thor movie.
I don,t see why a Thor fan wouldn,t give it a chance.
I was a comic book movie fan before i saw Kamen Rider and i liked it.
The only comic book movie fans i can,t see giving it a chance are the same people who say every superhero should be like Nolan's Batman or that spider-man isn,t allowed to wear his classic costume because a 'kid" can,t make it.:nono:

uh what were we talking about?
it suddenly jumped over to dragon knight...
but i dunno...
why do people compare stuff..?
