So, how does it work exactly? If history is back to being the original then none of this matters and Takumi never died in the first place... therefore he is still alive. ???

No, the implication is that he was supposed to die in the original timeline, like Faiz's ending implied, but didn't due to Shocker changing history. That's why he was still alive so many years later. Now without the machine's effects, he'd presumably be dead in the present. Or at least, that's what the special's summaries seem to be hinting at.

It's a retcon, obviously (the idea that everything we've seen with Faiz post show so far had been part of an altered history due to this year's Shocker plot), but it works, since this same machine had been shown to be able to add a completely new Rider to the past already.

Apparently, afterwards, Drive can't even remember meeting Takumi and is just sad for a reason he can't explain.

Thinking more about it I kinda like what this might imply... extending it even further might mean that Takumi being alive is not the only thing that's part of the altered history. Perhaps the Ryuki Riders still being around? Perhaps it has something to do with Kanzaki or Odin? Perhaps the original Faiz ending we saw on TV is what was part of the altered history? Perhaps the Paradise Lost movie was another timeline the Great Leader wanted to create? (And Goro Naya voices a Smart Brain higher-up there!)

I also kinda like what it implies for Takumi in Rider Taisen. Knowing that of all the people that died he is apparently the only one that revived, the one who doesn't need a second chance at life since he doesn't have anything left unfinished nor any dreams or hopes is perhaps an even worse form of the survivor's guilt he had (should we call it revival guilt or something like that?).
It also explains why he's the most adamant in trying to revive the dead. He himself resurrected and seems fine.

Again, it seems to me like they're planning something here, especially because I see Kento Handa still returning for one or two more movies.

Maybe they are building up something big for Rider 45th anniversary next year? Perhaps they are settling up a true end for the Great Leader and Shocker.

I don't think the tv and movie endings of Faiz are apart of this. This only takes place after the alternate ending of Faiz that was established from Kamen Rider Taisen. I'm hoping that Toei is leading this into something big. Ryuki's existence is something that needs to be addressed. If they ever get them back to reprise their roles, it has to tie in with the mirror world.

SHT GP seems to be holding its position, it has only gone from sixth to seventh place in the Japanese top ten after three weeks, in spite of several movies opening. Although there aren't box office numbers, so it's hard to say how well or badly it's doing after the first weekend. Those rankings probably mean a box office higher than Full Throttle (Drive x Gaim) at least, since that movie was pretty much dead after its second week, dropping out of the top 10. Full Throttle ended up falling behind Gaim's solo even though it opened higher.

No solid numbers yet aside from the first weekend. It's still hanging around in the top 10 though, in spite of starting so low.

We'll see a DVD release of the Rider 4 mini eventually right? Cause otherwise we're never going to be able to watch the rest
