Samurai Sentai Shinkenger - Talk Up!

J6, I'm really really trying to embrace your company, but your liking towards genta is not helping. :P

Lol how do you not like Genta? LoL I NEVER found him annoying, he really helped balance Takeru's seriousness! It was a nice addition to the team..... He was always finding the fun out of everything, and everytime he got sad, I felt like... AWWW!! poor Gen-chan!

Ryuunosuke was annoying, Kotoha was just plain cute, and Chiaki was stubborn, Takeru and Mako were the mature ones. Genta, I dunno, out of the all the upbeat and uber happy of the characters of the Super Sentai I've seen, he was just plain awesome and not annoying for once... Jan, Ban, just to name a few, of whom I found highly intolerable! Sousuke was kinda annoying, but the others balanced him out to make him actually fun to watch also!

LOVE LOVE LOVE GENTA! ShinkenGold? Now that's a different story lol.

Genta was a necessary character story-wise, but it failed in execution. Having a bad actor didn't help, yeah he's funny, but hilarity isn't enough if you need somebody to balance out Takeru's character.

ShinkenGold on the other hand was an awesome concept, but again, failed in execution since he fell for the sixth ranger syndrom earlier than expected. And him losing his superspeed didn't help either.

Ryuunosuke was annoying yes, but that was his role, so kudos to the actor for executing it well. He was funny, and his comedy made more sense than Genta, since Genta was trying too hard yet it came natural for Ryuunosuke. Though they both work well together.

Shinkenger was an ok series, it wasn't awesome since it failed a lot of points regarding their basic theme of the "samurai way", and I'm not getting to that again since I've already discussed it here a thousand times already. Though the darkness of the story was a nice touch which is what I'm looking for in Goseigers unfortunately.

I thought Shinkenger did fine in almost every department, sure they could've done a lot more, but what series has done well since the new millennium. I don't anything about the, "Samurai Way," but from my knowledge, they touched that aspect enough for kids to understand.

As for Keisuke's acting, I never noticed, and thought he did a good job. Compared to the American versions of Super Sentai, Super Sentai is on another level of acting, as the American versions come off so off key and just out of place.

Some things I didn't like was the addition of the "Real Shiba 18th Head," it was so late in the series, but I understood why they did it. However, Tanba made me want to just go to my T.V. and wish that I could smack a good one to knock him out till the end. Having such a big secret and a huge impact was kinda reminiscent of the past Super Sentai's. Thank goodness no one died in this series!!

Hiroki did a great job as Ryuunosuke, the character was funny and annoying, which was kinda weird for me because I wasn't used to seeing Hiroki in such a different role. He's usually the stoic and calm type in the movies and shows I've seen him in.

Like I said, it was an ok series.

Just browse through the past pages to see how many complained about Keisuke's acting prowess. Again, he was funny, but that isn't what the role really needed.

Then Tanba's actor did a great job. Though it would have been ok for me if somebody were to die, given that they did choose a dark path for Shinkengers to traverse on.

A fair and funny potshot!

But, you know, it brings up something I've been thinking about lately...

I see people making the argument from "good taste" on this forum a lot and I can't begin to conceive of why. Tokusatsu is one of the ultimate expressions of consumer trash culture, a fundamentally lowbrow exercise in formula.

I would think anyone with any conventional version of "good taste" is not posting in this thread or on this forum. I would imagine these persons are busy working their way through the Western canon, taking breaks only to listen to Vivaldi and read the latest Scientific American.

Hell, I'm here precisely because I think tokusatsu is lowbrow (and therefore vital and interesting). High culture in most countries has fundamentally lost touch with the basic zeitgeist of the middle and lower classes.

Tokusatsu is still broad and schlocky (and therefore vital and relevant, IMO). It speaks directly, if often through dream logic, to the anxieties and aspirations of the average person. Good taste seems entirely beside the point when it comes to this kind of material working or not working.

Everything about most tokusatsu, certainly the henshin hero shows, takes a steaming dump on conventional ideas of what is good taste in television, film, or popular culture. I just find it very curious that anyone in the community would want to even bring up the notion when it's basically our medium's antithesis.

^^LoL, don't we all just have good taste?

Anyone know how long the V-Cinema is going to be?! I guess they already shot it a while back, and I can't wait for the Vs. to come out next year! It's going to be awesome!!

Also anyone have a good synopsis to what the V-Cinema is going to be about? I'll still post this and look around the topic also, just to let ya know!
