The BGM is definitely one of the best i have heard ... it fits in every scene in every episode seamlessly.

With Genta you were encouraged to laugh with him not at him, but not so with Ryuunosuke.

This assertion is completely full of ****. Genta's constantly the butt of jokes in Shinkenger, from the time he first appears to the very last episode. Everyone tells him his sushi is bad constantly and just look at the scene where he tries to dress "formally" to join the Shinkengers.

If anything Genta gets it a lot worse than Ryuunosuke, since Genta takes over the comic relief duties once he's a regular cast member. Ryuunosuke is occasionally treated as silly and laughable, but there are also episodes about how he's by far the most traditionally ideal samurai out of the Shinkengers.

My opinion is probably coloured by the backlash that Ryuunosuke got from some people after episode 46 because he initially wanted to stay with Kaoru, whereas Genta (sixth ranger syndrome) didn't get to be there the following episode when Ryuunosuke swears his undying dedication to Takeru in what IMO was the best team-bonding moment of the series ...

I agree that pretty much all the Shinkenger BGM was awesome. I had the one that plays during sad/emotional moments as the ringtone on my phone for a bit.

Yeah, that was pretty bullshit. If anyone paid any attention at all to anything Ryuunosuke did in any prior episode, they should've expected that. Ryuunosuke was the super-traditional guy, so of course the kagemusha thing is going to badly confuse his loyalties.

^ Yep, Ryuu's move was really expected since Samurai would die for the honor of serving their lords to their death rather than be a ronin and serve no master (considering that Takeru wasn't an eligible lord).

On a reread of the thread I notice someone said that Shinkenger never touched on the seppuku thing but IIRC it did - in the episode where Ryuunosuke is being controlled by the Gedoushuu, the monster of the week threatens to make him do it unless Takeru agrees to fight. Must find that one on YouTube now and rewatch it ...

I just answered my own question about Ryuu, but him being in on the 'something being wrong with Takeru' storyline would have been interesting, to say the least.

The fanboy in Ryuu battling with the Samurai part of him to seek the truth and Mako reacting to Ryuu's overreacting would have been awesome. She was the most interesting with her interactions with Ryuu and Tayuu.

I think all those problems would've been solved if they had just revealed the truth about Takeru like 10 episodes earlier. Then you wouldn't even have to have people "in" on it and people "out" of it. They could have had actual episodes about each of them struggling to come to grips with the information, and the real implications of what it meant.

I'm shocked to hear that Ryunosuke got a hard time for staying behind, as I frankly found it insulting that most of the team pretty much had no issue abandoning Kaoru to fight with Takeru right away. Genta's being on the outs with the team for an episode or so meant basically nothing (except proving that Juzo was truly extra super-duper hardcore, whee), and Ryuu's questioning of himself lasted all of 10 minutes before he's just allowed to be "right" again.

I don't mean to be so bitter on on Shinkenger, but I just don't think it's right to work so hard to set up so many different kinds of conflict among the team, and then just handwave it all away at the exact moment when it should be coming to a head. I don't know if it's a thing where the writer wanted to debut Kaoru earlier and Toei got cold feet about the female red, or Bandai just instituted mandatory filler to push the toys harder, or if Kobayashi actually thought the "twist" would be better if it came out later... but either way, I found the way it ended very unsatisfactory.

^^I agree about the ten episode earlier thing.

I didn't know there was backlash against Ryuu for staying with Karou. :disappoin That really defined his character because he really got to do nothing does final episodes.

I didn't really like how they handled the Karou situation at all. She should've been part of that final battle too. She not only lost her father to Doukoku but probably lost most of the Shinken Reds before her father to Gedoushou but she gets to sit on the sidelines while everybody else saves the day. :shakefist

The girl was a powerhouse.:buttrock:

Indeed. Despite whatever other issues I may have with this show and how it turned out I still get really pumped when hearing the track that plays for the groups henshin and serifu. Case in point (even though it's from their Decade appearence)..
