Ressha Sentai ToQger Ep 6 "What Are We Looking For?"

Well, first 6 episodes in and I am liking where this show is going. This is unexpectedly grabbing my attention more than Kyoryuger was. Also, I like how each episode is tying into the next.

Seriously don't get how people LOVE Kyoryuger. ToQger has a coherent storyline, characters that are more or less fleshed out (even with amnesia), it's funny, fun, cute, awesome, all in one. I've loved all six episodes so far.

I can't wait for more! Next week looks so amazing!

(ToQ1+2's bamboo fight with their flop duo moves was seriously sf funny omg )

Like I said over at the topic for Gaim's episode, things have been crazy in my life, but they are finally slowing down. I just hope no one minds that I'm not doing scene-by-scene reactions anymore. I just want to watch and absorb episodes naturally and give my overall thoughts. Doesn't mean I have completely stopped, I will try to point out small stuff that interests or confuses me, but that's about it.

One thing I like about ToQger is the giant mecha choreography. In Kyoryuger, it felt like they were really driving the green screen and CGI hard most of the time. But in ToQger, it feels like they are returning to form, using more miniatures, more sets and location shots, and only using CGI where necessary. I like that so much better. I think I am also growing to love the theme song.

I liked how Right and Tokatti played off each other just before breaking away from Schwarz. It was almost like watching someone playing a video game, or maybe like watching two people take turns with one video game.

And I know it's too soon to think about this, but if ToQger gets adapted into Power Rangers, they'll probably have to call the show Power Rangers TQG since TQG is all over the place (much like how SPD was all over the place in DekaRanger). Makes me wonder what TQG will stand for in Power Rangers... But like I said, too soon to be thinking about that. :coolshades:

Kyoryuger was very energetic, had a lot of fun characters (even outside of the main cast) and the same kind of continuation/coherent story we're seeing here with ToQGer. Even the "filler" eisodes in Kyoryuger had some kind of plot development. It was a huge departure from the dull and lackluster Gobusters and in my opinion, the most consistent Sentai season, if not one of the overall best. But hey, there's a whole topic if you want to discuss why you love or didn't love those show.

This episode was pretty good. I really like the train elements, but yellow and pink were relegated to literally standing on the sidelines for the whole episode, which was pretty disappointing, especially when the idea of who should be the leader was brought up. I get that none of them really cared about it, but Mio has constantly been portrayed as the mother hen type, being level headed and looking after anyone else. It's not even suggested that she could be a leader, except as part of a snide joke.

I'm still trying to figure out if switching colours and weapons mid battle actually has a purpose or not.

It fits with the whole Imagination theme sure, but what pros does it have in battle outside of keeping your opponents guessing?

If the Rangers used downsized versions of the Support Resshas and became like extra rangers without hiring new actors I could see that aspect being cool, but…it all seems pointless to me especially if the person who's not use to the someone else's fighting style and won't know how to properly use his/her weapon.

You know, just a thought, extremely powerful fuels tend to want to explode. Using fuel tanks full of it as boxing gloves seems like bad idea...
Geeze, Tokati is all kinds of useless isn't he?

He gets captured in this episode, looses his pass in the previous one...
He's the designated comic relief. It's something of a wonder he has any ability to fight at all, rather than just Shunpei-ing all over the place (yes, I'm making that a verb).
Seriously don't get how people LOVE Kyoryuger.
And I don't see how people couldn't love it, but it's takes all sorts to make a world :anime:

Pretty sure it's pointless because they didn't bother to think it through. Same with how they don't even bother to explain why monsters grow when defeated or how. It's just lazy writing.

Right/Raito is an idiot, Tokatti goes into a slight mental breakdown ten minutes into his "leadership" and the other three find the new train offscreen. Thrilling. I honestly don't know how they can make an episode starring General friggin' Schwartz in his debut action and still make the payoff so underwhelming and flat.

It probably doesn't put your villains very high in the charts if they're so quickly beaten up after a fight with a dodgy boxing train robo with sped up fight footage.

I'm trying TOQger, but you're driving me away. How many more chances do I need to give you? :disappoin

This show's fun but I'm really not big on this 'Hunt for the Auxillary mecha' gimmick they're going for at the moment. Especially since I still find the mecha fights to be dreadful.
I actually found the mecha fight in this episode to be best in ToQger yet. Seeing ToQ-Oh and the Kuliner robo wailing on each other was pretty awesome, as was the near cross-counter at the end .

While I can understand why the group would sort of come to the conclusion of "everyone being their own kind of leader" and not feeling the need to really designate someone, I don't see why Right couldn't have been the public and "face" leader of the team while everyone else offers what they're respectively good at in return. I mean, Daigo was the leader of the Kyoryugers, but you had Ian often being the one coming up with strategies and plans like Hikari does here.

I wonder if General Shchwarz will be the closest thing to a rival Right gets in the series? I'm also interested to see if Baron Nero might be the only other general capable of going into combat.

When the gimmick is pretty much used by the heroes just for the sake of it rather than for any real practical purpose, then I think you'd be forgiven for thinking its pointless :P.

ToQ 6: (time for lots of catching up)

- Why are we repeating the "mechas were scattered about by something and we must find them" plot? It works with animals, but not so much with vehicles. Much like the arm-swapping in Boukenger didn't really feel right to me compared to Gaoranger and Abaranger.

- Good scene with Schwarz overestimating Right's cleverness.

- They should have gotten Barry Foster to play Schwarz and dub over his lines (like Giba in Jiban). He has experience playing eager German militarymen.

- There are multiple Scope Resshas? Does that mean there isn't a mecha version of it?

- 16:29 Schwarz is a Borg?

- Why do the support mechas always leave and never stay around?
