Personally I would adapt Shinkenger by not hiding the Japanese-ness.

Red would be Asian or at least partially Asian, I'd keep the whole family line thing where his ancestor was a Red Ranger in old Japan, but I'd make it skip a few centuries so its all just myths by now and not family tradition.

Except for that one weird pentagonal toy that turns into a lion if you know how.

When the demons ravaged ancient Japan the Red Ranger's ancestor and his team mates destroyed their leader and sealed the demons away but something went wrong and in today's world they're coming out somewhere else than Japan.

Now just some clever reason why the others are chosen and bingo! You got your premise! Anything else is just story dressing. The premise is really the hard part for Shinkenger.

I do like those ideas. It wouldnt be too hard for Judd or the writers to come up with something. But I am worried that the footage is so rich with japanese culture that it might be awkward for a western adaption.

Just pull a "Last Samurai" (sorta) with the red ranger still being asian.

Red has team mates but are Killed or something, suddenly he finds 4 others and has to make a quick decision, and hands them thier morphers, thus they become Power Rangers *insert name here*, along the way he teaches his new comrads about anchient japan. kids love japan, so it would get them interested.

Red could be an anchient warrior who was sealed up along with the demons, archeologists unearth him and the demons and shp them to a museum in america. he finds four youths and well see above.

or

they can be lazy and just use the Ninja storm Formula.

You actually want to see something messed up? Especially a show that's, so far at least, pretty darn good.

I'm getting word from my sources telling me that Barrack Obama is the new EP for Power Rangers.

I don't believe. It would be too hard to save the economy and Power Rangers at the same time.

If RPM is the end, then it was a great run. There were a few bumps, but all good rides have those. All in all, I'll miss Power Rangers.
