No. Just no. The government was created by the people for the people. They work for us. The minute you start this "It's ok for them to keep secrets" nonsense, as is happening now, we all lose.

I'm not saying it's ok for them to keep secrets because yes they work for us. However, it's almost like a parent/child relationship. Because there are some things that would cause hysteria in America and cause more problems than it's worth. Do we need to know the play by play nitty gritty of every interrogation ever? No. We don't. I do think we need to know what's going on with our nation. But it really is not a big deal for us to know if after doing all they could they had to resort to pulling off ____'s fingernails to find out that there wasn't a plot all along.

Facebook is so stalkerific, let's just make the government get Facebooks lol.

Waterboarding wasn't used on a daily basis on every person we captured when trying to find out their names.
Point?
No conservative advocates that sort of practice at all, so when I present a situation to you in which something like waterboarding (which causes no physical pain at all) is used, I automatically become a fear monger. I see.
lolwut?

...YES. Yes, we need to know what they are doing. They represent us. It isn't a parent/child relationship, are you kidding me?

What do you mean, "not a big deal"? Your government crushin human rights=not a big deal? Are you serious?

And another thing, if you think that torture is needed, at least grow the balls to face the critics of international community. It looks that when you say "it could be ok, what's important is to not let people know" is because you know parts of the world -the parts where we torture is not ok- will critic your country, and you dont like this. This, or you can sleep better not knowin your country tortures people.

Again it's my opinion shaped by my life and my experiences. I live in an area that goes into a damn riot anytime something is said regarding government, positive or negative. I WOULD like to know everything that they do, however, there's too many people that can't control themselves with that knowledge. And PERSONALLY i'd rather have a calmer and more peaceful life with knowing the essentials

Again it's PERSONAL

So you want to have everything kept quiet so your life is peaceful? Even if that means the government that works for us hides things and keeps secrets?

Did I say i support it? No. But it is not essential to my everyday life for me to know if they wound up having to use it as a last resort to potentially save our country.

I know the US has had to torture for information. However all the situations depend on if it's possibly needed or not. There's no black or white answer. There's far too much gray area. And I have no idea where you're getting that I need to stand up to the international community? I don't care what other countries think of us, however, for sake of foreign relations we probably shouldn't piss off everyone. It's a fine line that has to be walked carefully.

I never said there was an absolute answer, if someone goes into your house and isn't carrying a weapon or anything and says "I'm going to kill your wife and kids" you're not going to automatically tie them up and threaten to put their fingers in the food processor, but if you're in an impossible situation that's time sensitive and you know that person has the information you need to save innocent people, you do it. Waterboarding wasn't used on a daily basis on every person we captured when trying to find out their names. No conservative advocates that sort of practice at all, so when I present a situation to you in which something like waterboarding (which causes no physical pain at all) is used, I automatically become a fear monger. So you would be ok with another country doing the same to some one from the US? If it meant helping that other country?

So you want to have everything kept quiet so your life is peaceful? Even if that means the government that works for us hides things and keeps secrets?

I don't believe that is best for the US. Nor do I want my life perfectly private. However I think there are too many people that can not handle the information when they have it. There is no yes or no to this. There are some things we should know, and some things we probably should, or they should be put out there in a less flame-worthy way

This is not about HELPING the country. This is in a terrorist situation, if there's not enough time to spend on traditional interrogation when there's intel about a pending attack, and lives are on the line, innocent lives, THAT'S what you use these methods for, not to just "help" a country. The United States is not going around the world killing innocent people, blowing up women an children in public places because we hate a society or to make a political point. There's a HUGE difference.
