They got it right. That's actually unexpected.

I'm totally fine with Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor. Yes, he is older, but I feel he can still have a youthful role if that makes any sense. It helps he is a huge fan of the series as well. He wrote in a newspaper after the 25th anniversary hoping the next anniversary would be amazing. Little did he know he would be the reason it would be so great.

He doesn't need to be youthful, the Doctor certainly isn't

After relatively young Matt Smith and middle aged Tennant this must be a shock to the tweens.

And as Moffat (?) said, he'll be "different than Matt", so I'm hoping for more of 9...

But wow, these fans bitching on Facebook is kind of hilarious but very sad.

I had 'younger' in mind as well, but I'm completely fine with this as well. All you need is to bring life to a character and you can play the Doctor. Of course at a certain point, I would say there is 'too old' but Peter isn't in that category.

Oddly enough, Peter Capaldi is older than the four actors preceeding him in the role (Paul McGann, Christopher Ecclestone, David Tennant and Matt Smith), and the first since Paul to have been born before the original series started. So a big tick in the box marked "older". But even if he can't run and flail his limbs like David and Matt, that just makes for a different Doctor, and I look forward to it (and hope he lasts more than four years!).

Time for a "Thick of It" marathon methinks. It's funny that the paralels between him and Hartnell are so similar...started off playing tough types and eventually take on grandfatherly roles

I'm quite happy with an older Doctor - it's a little bit of a change even if he's still a white man (and people seem to forget that the Doctor was first conceived as an old grandfather looks-wise.) A bit shaky on Peter Capaldi because I can't disassociate him from his character's storyline on Torchwood, which upset me to watch. But I'm sure I'll get over that once he is actually playing the Doctor
