Disney buys Marvel

I'm really pissed! I woke up to this **** on twitter! What the hell Stan Lee your gona die soon anyway! Couldn't you of waited?!

Disney buying Marvel....

well looks like spiderman and the x-men will help Mickey Mouse and his friends build that dream playhouse they always wanted

I really hope Marvel see how well Spider-Girl would do in their Hannah Montanna-keen demographic and go full swing with it. Might be wishful thinking though...still, at least there's fresh eyes on this stale, directionless glorified deviantart blog run by fanboys. Maybe now, as matt is putting across, there will be either a firm balance or a severe toning down. I wouldnt mind it, Bendis has actually prepared for it with the relaunch of USM being aimed more towards younger readers.

Titles like Marvel Adventures might take greater promience too.

I have felt strongly for many years that a balance is preferable. The mainline titles for both companies should and have in their past history appealed to a broader audience of young and old alike without neccessarily taking down to either.

I think this is better than having the sort of polarized thing of the overgrimdark titles and then the fun but ultimately watered down kiddy titles. Not to say I don't like Marvel Adventures but I guess I feel like there shouldn't *have* to be Marvel Adventures to get a Spider-Man book you could hand to your son or little brother. But that also doesn't mean there can't be great action and drama either which i think a lot of older readers are quick to assume. It's like if we dare let kids be art of the audience for the mainline titles then suddenly it all automatically becomes Mort Weisnger DC or something.

I also just wish both companies would quit treating superheroes and horror movies like they're the same genre. I wish Johns would just go write a horror book instead of sticking his gore fetish in comics with Superman and Captain Marvel. A moratorium on zombies for both companies wouldn't hurt either. :P

I'll admit, that was a WTF moment for me this morning, but really I'm not that freak out about it. It will probably be fine if the movies are distributed under Miramax or Touchstone, since Disney are owners of those companies. This deal is mostly just corporate horse-trading.

Oh God, No. I was asleep by my radio when I hear this....Uhh. You guys know that thing that when you sleep next to your radio and whatever you hear goes into your dreams? ..........Okay, People are looking at me like a weirdo. Anyway, Everybody might want to look at this from a video gamers prespective. I mean this might make or break a possiblity of a Marvel vs Capcom 3. or the future of all Marvel Games in general. I mean look at Power Rangers....Okay there hasn't been a good PR game since MMPR. But you get my point. I mean Disney has already screwed up one Superhero series (Except Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD and RPM). They won't stop till they rule the world. THE WORLD I TELLS YA!!:O_O:

Repeat post for me, but I think it needs to be said:

People are reading too much into this. Yes, Disney now owns Marvel. But that doesn't mean Marvel will immediately start to suck - Disney is a huge conglomerate that owns way more than just the kiddy stuff you see on the Disney channel and the movies with the Disney name on them. It's very unlikely that they'll change an already successful formula. What they probably will do is try to get the young boys and girls of the Hannah Montana/Jonas crowd into comic books, and is that really a bad thing? It's something Marvel's been trying to do for years.

They've said that they plan to keep Marvel creatively intact, and I believe that for right now. The only thing I'm worried about is what this will do to Marvel Superhero Island at Universal.
