Nah, I got nothin'. It's like I said, I think there's a difference, but you can't change how people think (because if you could, I'd make nobody like Faiz). For me, it has nothing to do with "Bah! Only stuff that's made in Japan is toku," but the fact that the people behind these shows are so uncreative on their own that they must remake the Japanese one and splice out 90% of the footage.
See, making broad generalizatiosn like this kinda irk me. I'm sorry, but I enjoyed Power Rangers in Space more than I have any Sentai or Tokusatsu. Not because of race, or who made it, or what came first, but based on its own merits and incredible
creativity the expanded and developed the Power Ranger Universe into a better one that anyone ever expected. It's not lack of creativity... it's that these people have a job and are doing the best they can with what they have.
Sometimes better than others.
If they tried to be original, same concept complete with their own suits and ideas, I could be like "Wow, we have an American tokusatsu." But with PR being a remake, I just feel that it loses something in being placed alongside the others.
Comes down to business. With the formula that's been developed with Power Rangers everyone stands to make MUCH more money, but adapting the already made material instead of starting again from scratch.
And some, wouldn't want them to. Kids in America like Power Rangers. Fans of Power Rangers like Power Rangers. Sometimes the American version brings more or different stuff to the table, like PR in Space or Lost Galaxy.
It's like that terrible "Psycho" remake (that's been plaguing channels of late). It's a shot for shot remake, but that doesn't make it a Hitchcock flick. It's just an impostor -- instead of adapting the novel and doing its own thing, it could only survive on the work another did. PR's the same way, just as those cartoons that are drawn in a style that want so desperately to be an anime are nothing more than impostors.
Well, again it all depends. What you're doing is like what white supremesists do... "All black people are bad." "All Power Rangers is nothing but a shot for shot remake and uncreative."
Where as a fan, I look at each series on its own. And saying that PRiS or LG, ****.. even DT were uncreative is just insulting.
This is false. Shows like Totally Spies are wildly successful, even tho they mirror anime styles.
PR fans want badly for these shows to be "accepted" and be seen as equal to their Japanese counterparts when they're simply remakes, and remakes can never surpass the source material, they're inferior by default.
Another phrase that's about as accurate as, "All black people are inferior to white people by default. They want to be accepted as equals."
As a black person, I could give a frell if some white guy accepts me as his equal as a human or not.
And as a fan of Power Rangers, I could care less if it's "accepted" by people who've made up their mind without seeing the show or grading it on its own merits. Lost Galaxy and Space were not simply remakes, but expansions of the Power Ranger mythos in their own rights.
By no means am I going to say that PR doesn't owe something to Sentai for is origin, but PR at its best is still some of the best children's television created in the US and I do mean all it takes to edit and write what they do and adapt it how they do.
Andros, KO-35, and just a lot of other stuff.. but these people aren't God and they do have limited time and budget to create what they do. The stunts pulled off in PR lately far surpass that which is in Sentai.
You make it seem like all they do is sit about eating donuts and because they smugly "rip off" the original material, it appears on the screen magically.
However, my mind is still blown that PR still couldn't improve upon Ninpoop Sentai Hurricanger...how the hell did that happen? There was nowhere but up to go, and they still managed to make it a crap fest!
This is all in opinion. Martial art-wise they school the hell outta Hurricanger and there's a good chunk of the fandom that enjoyed it. Because I or you didn't doesn't mean that Ninja Storm was a failure.
I'll address the rest later.
