What do your other Friends think of Toku?

I've shown toku to four of my friends. One didn't really like what he saw, I showed another Kabuto and he loved it as well as other toku that I showed him, we religiously watch Gekiranger together now. I showed another friend Garo and he seems to like it, will probably show him Agito when he finishes Garo. The last friend, I showed her 555, which she seemed to love, mostly because of Kiba and Yuka. Moved onto Ryuki after that and she seems to be enjoying it as well.

Outside of those three, most of my other friends won't even try to watch tokusatsu. A few of them used to bother me about it, giving token Power Ranger jokes, but they don't really do that anymore. My exgirlfriend saw me watching Kabuto once and got into it as well as a few other shows too, so that was pretty cool.

My closest friends know I watch tokusatsu, but I don't get teased about it or anything. No "oh, it's stupid" comments either. They really don't say anything about it.

Of course, I doubt any would watch it on their own. I think maybe two would give it a chance if I watched with them, but one would for sure refuse to watch and refer to it as "Japanese Power Rangers."

My friends don't care one way or the other. None of them watch Toku, but they don't bug me about watching either. Most of them are anime fans, so them making fun of me would be like the pot calling the kettle black.

One of my friends is convinced its no different than Power Rangers, but that just amuses me. He said that to me one time and I spent the remainder of the evening explaining why he was wrong. :rolleyes2:

Oookay...

Back in my 2nd year of Japanese class, I thought I'd let some of my friends borrow a 2 VCDs with some randomly selected Tokusatsu shows..

First guy: the VCDs didn't work.

Second guy: He didn't like it, I think he said it was too much like Batman and Robin (1960's) to him (maybe I should've used some more modern Toku too), but the most amusing thing he said was he didn't like "Plastic Heads". He didn't watch the 2nd VCD though.

Third Guy: Loved Ultraman but I think he said he wasn't too keen on Kamen Rider, didn't watch the 2nd disc because he was VERY VERY busy.

What else?

I lent a friend of mine at work a VCD containing 2 episodes of ZyuRanger. She was willing to watch it, as she didn't mind Power Rangers and was interested in watching "the original Japanese version" as I told her. She still hasn't watched it yet, as she's been very busy.

And just recently, I met a guy at an offlicense, who was wearing a Thundercats T-Shirt, and he gave me a link to a website where I can watch episodes of loads of TV Shows, including Thundercats, later I asked him if he likes Power Rangers, and if he likes Japanese shows, so I gave him a link to TV Nihon. Haven't yet heard his opinion yet but hope he likes it.

Er...let's just say that I think 90% of the general public in the UK think Toku equals in the following equation...

Guys in Spandex + Sentai + Kamen Rider + Other Toku Series - Japan x America = Power Rangers

Though thankfully, through the power of Jonathon Ross (Toku celebrity fan that I know of) and Neo magazine (anime, manga and Asian film magazine that actually knows what it's doing in terms of research on anything to do with Japan); that'll clear things out...eventually.

Though I managed to succeed my younger sister once, after telling her that roughly 60% of the BLEACH voice actors are in Den-O.
