The Pro Wrestling Thread - No Gimmick Needed

I actually like Roman Reigns and I have no problem with WWE management wanting him to be the next top guy. But holy crap did they boo the **** out of him last night. Now I know what it feels like to be a Cena fan.

I think Reigns is nowhere near ready and if anything, he should be taking the U.S title at this point from Rusev and being build up over the course of the year in a similar way that belt was used to groom Cena for the main strap. This should have been a transitional year, with Bryan getting a second uninterrupted turn as champion, but I get him taking the belt from Lesnar would seem too far-fetched given his size. They need a guy with a build to look a match for the guy. They need to iron out Reign's flaws on the microphone, and, failing that, keep him more in a silent assassin role.

Second inductee is a celebrity and you already recognize him by now and yes, my prediction came true after all.

Looks like Cena has a WM opponent after all.

Also, Raw has cancelled tonight's live event in XL Center due to blizzard.

I like Reigns. But I agree that he needs a build up title first (US or IC). I miss the days when a star would start off with one of those titles and work up to the World title, Lesnar threw that out the window going for the WWE title right off the bat (2002).

I'm glad Bryan didn't win. I don't want to see another WrestleManiA repeat and having Lesnar vs. Bryan would have been a complete joke considering the size difference between the two and if Bryan did beat Lesnar it would be as stupid looking as when Rey Mysterio beat Batista. This way with Reigns (being a big guy) taking on Lesnar we get a battle of the titans kinda thing which I am down for.

I am actually pretty pumped for Lesnar/Reigns. Reigns CAN wrestle so it's not like we are being fed someone very green either. Now WWE needs to build him to a big thing up to Mania for it to completely work.

Bryan's knowledge of submission holds makes it believable. It's not David vs Goliath in which David is flying around the ring delivering frankensteiners and hurracanranas to Goliath; it's someone that, albeit smaller, knows which veins to close off to put his opponent to sleep. That's what BJJ is based on entirely. I've seen this happen in real life and it's funny/infuriating to see how some just don't buy someone smaller being able to knock out someone bigger.

I've heard rumors that Bryan will not be involved in the title match because "Vince doesn't want to repeat last year, it would be overkill." I'm not believing them out of respect for Vince and Hunter. Once upon a time, I thought Vince was monumentally stupid and used every occasion I could to be very vocal about it, but come to think of it, there is no way he can be THAT bad, right?
If you're wondering what I mean: I meant to say that "overkill" is a weak argument after repeating HBK vs 'Taker and Cena vs Rock ("ONCE in a lifetime"). Whoever says that has a part of their brain dead.

Part of the reason why Roman Reigns got booed was not only out of bitterness from Bryan's early elimination (nearly everyone was getting booed after that) but because the crowd is getting aware that perhaps he has been granted a free first class trip to the main event due to family influences. The Rock's appearance only made matters worse. I don't think either of them deserved that. But in a way, it shows how dumb they were to have Batista win last year when Reigns was getting received well by the audience.

Speaking of the audience, I'd like to add one last thing: I absolutely loved the way they received John Cena but it's such a shame that it happened so late. Many years ago I saw a video on youtube which claimed they had this revolutionary way of booing Cena, and that's where I first heard people singing "John Cena sucks" along with his song. I thought it would be wonderful to pick that up because it would ruin his entrance so much that the WWE would have to change something (at best, Cena gets some kryptonite; at worst, they change his theme song). It's right up there with Kurt Angle's. However, the plate is already broken and there's no mending it. It doesn't matter if they make him "descend from the top" and/or turn him heel, it doesn't matter if every arena in the universe boos him, his era of absolute perfection has forever left a mark.

I think Daniel Bryan is the size of Lesnar's arm. Lesnar would make him tap in a heart beat, plus maybe Lesnar wasn't down for loosing to a much smaller guy, especially if he plans to hit up UFC after this run.

I enjoy D-Bryan's in ring work but other than that he is boring to me. I really wouldn't be interested in seeing him in the main event again (aka John Cena syndrome). We don't need the same guys in the main events every year. This way it's fresh with Lesnar and Reigns. It's gonna be a legit brawl between those two.

I think if Reigns gets a Bootista treatment after this that at Mania, Heyman turns on Lesnar and joins with Reigns and costs Lesnar the title. That will be legit heat considering Lesnar has been cheered big time the last few weeks.

Also, to all the cry baby, fat assed IWC bitches who cancelled the subscriptions... WWE Network hits 1 Million. You crying bitches can all SUCK IT.

Clearly you never saw any of the early UFC events when Royce Gracie would make guys 200 lbs heavier than him tap out. As for Heyman, if Lesnar loses, there will be no double-cross. The only reason he came back was because Brock asked him to. Plain and simple. Way back when Johnny Ace was running things, he tried being Lesnar's mouth piece, and it was horrible. So, after that, Brock called Paul and told him that only he could speak on his behalf.

As for these "IWC fans that cancelled their subscription", I agree they're fucking morons. I was displeased with the Rumble, but why am I going to cancel when I have a plethora of other **** I can watch.

As for Brock/Reigns, I'm sorry but I'm not interested. You can have the two big guys wrestling, but for me, I think it'll be as boring as Rock/Cena 2. I would've loved to see Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins in the main event. Two guys that have worked together in the past, tearing the fucking house down with an amazing match which could be a possible MOTY candidate.
