The Figma Thread - News and Reviews

And here I thought the Figuarts wasn't going to be as good as it got. We also got Nagisa from Madoka coming and... another character I've seen but don't know the name of.

Cure Sunny? Although she's a Figuarts, I'm not sure why she's shown with all the Figma releases.

So wait, there are 2 versions of the Iron Man?

Yup. The high price might have been justified if it came with a load of accessories and a Tony Stark head, but it looks like that version is going to be an exclusive (and probably even more expensive) release. I was very excited for the Avengers Figma's, it's amazing how quickly I've been put off them altogether.

I tend not to favour Figmas. I really don't like that those wheel joints stick out, nor do I like Figma joints in general. The only Figma I personally own is Samus, and she is magnificent, but from handling my sister's anime Figmas I think that she is the exception.

Hm. That's surprising. I own/have owned close to a 100 figmas and I personally haven't had any problems with them at all. Of course, there are QC issues to be expected here and there, but they all hold together solidly and pose perfectly. Is it the thinness of the proportions that give the illusion of fragility?

I didn't actually make any claims about the fragility. It's how the joints appear that puts me off. And I've had hellish times posing any figures with big, heavy hair and shallow pegs keeping them on. How many times have I turned a Figma head and had the front of the hairpiece pop off?

It's not that they "break", so fragility is the wrong word. It's that they aren't...well, solid, I guess. And visually the joints are unappealing to me (especially the wheel kind that stick out from the back of the legs).

I've got issues with almost every figure line though..

Play Arts sculpts and plastic quality make them stiff and their poseability limited and their knees are so difficult to make look good when bent further than about 60 degrees.

Figmas often have single-jointed knees which make kneeling or crouching poses next to impossible and have the visual deficiencies I've outlined above.

Figuarts have poorly-hidden joints and earlier ones have that plasticy sheen to them that made it very obvious that they are toys (though Figuarts have been improving by leaps and bounds in both of those areas lately).

S.I.C.s *still* have figures that come out with serious QC issues on occasion which makes pre-ordering them a gamble. But other than that...they're probably my favourite line. They hide joints extremely well, have interesting sculpts (aesthetic tastes aside), and have as much or more poseability than a Figuarts or Figma. Their scale also suits my preference.

Revoltechs have ratcheting joints (which I despise) and their poseability is lacking.

Hot Toys and Medicom have fragility issues which, coupled with their cost, makes them a risky investment.

There are so many toy lines though I could go on and on and on and on. Each of Bandai's Gundam figure lines has similar ups and downs. Which is why I own at least one of pretty much every line. But Figmas and Revoltechs are the ones I own the least of. I am interested in getting a few Figmas sometime in the next year though. Specifically Nyarlko and Black Gold Saw.

Guess you're buying him, cause Hobby Japan just confirmed Tony Stark face on figma Iron Man.... I hope it's a good sculpt, but I think they did a pretty good job on Hemsworth's likeness, so this should be pretty cool....

Actually, correction. Good Smile Online is going to have a variant figure called Iron Man Mark 7 Full Spec Version that will have the Tony Stark face. No price is listed,

8800 yen

Agreed. Who's to say they even have the license/ rights to other avengers?

The mark 6 figuart couldn't even be sold in certain parts of Asia. Just because they did iron man 2 figures doesn't they can do avengers

Not to mention getting likeness approval from hemsworth and Evans

So holding out for figuart avengers is a pipe dream at the moment

Awesome. Thanks for the update!

Also... Cap's face... looks like he's holding his breath or got stung by a bee, which is a shame since I was looking forward to him the most.

Well, Bandai is sponsoring the new Avengers Disk Wars anime, so I think if it's successful enough they may make Figuarts based off of that, but it wouldn't be the same as the movie Avengers. It would get them around licensing issues though.

Yeah... Definitely getting the 8800 yen one... All those accessories and helmet-up-face is amazing. Wonder why they're making two versions though... I'm sorry wallet..
