The Acting thread - Calling all Actors of HJU!

I'm a great actor. Every day I pretend to care about the people around me and their problems, and I frequently am even able to convince myself that I'm capable of feeling.

Only acting I've ever had is in middle school, I was Wilbur in Charlotte's Web and I did quite good....but the friggin' Drama teacher played favorites and it pretty much killed my interest in it.

You should submit Bolt! You'd actually be a really good ranger i think

*sigh* I envy those who have gone into drama/acting earlier... :redface2:

I'm somewhat interested in acting though it's never crossed my mind to ever be an actor seeing that I tend to have a shell I need to come out of. Drama in high school was out of the question for me because of that though thinking back now, it would've been a good opportunity to get over that at the time. :disappoin

(Though if I were to act, I would like to take on villains roles more. I love actors like Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee, Dennis Hopper, Willem Dafoe, Vincent Price, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, Jason Isaacs, Sean Bean, etc. as somehow I tend to find villain characters more interesting.)

That said, I find myself more interested in being behind the camera. I've always dreamed of being a director as a kid. I still do now... but my parents don't support it. No idea why... maybe because I'm an only child so all their attention is focused on me (and they got no other child to "shape" into the way they want)... or could it be that I'm Chinese so they expect me to be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, or in my case: economist or some finance related stuff. I love money (who doesn't?) but such a field isn't what I want to do every day. :(

I hate my life as it is, to be honest (aside from getting everything I want and having the money to collect without much limits). I'm hardly doing anything that I enjoy. My education is for something my parents wanted me to do. At the moment, I'm done university now -- graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. I've been thinking of going into a film school to pursue my dream rather than what my parents want (which is to find work that is in the field I studied for and then live a life of tedious normality).

My mom says she'll accept my passion but she insists I must have some economics/finance in it. The "closest" thing (if it is even "close" at all) she'd allow is marketing. That's not what I want though... I want to make films. :redface2:

I'm in a similar boat as you. I got a B.S. in Computer Information Systems, but I am not completely satisfied with it. I do not want a career in IT, it is just too complex for tastes. I've thought about acting on-and-off but I never pursued it because I didn't know what I wanted. I just took Drama I in high school and appeared as an extra in a short independent film. After I graduated, I went through a period of regret and it wasn't a good feeling at all. I so wished I pursued acting when I was a teenager and I would've gotten some experience in. Sometimes, I feel like I should've majored in Theater Arts, but you can get training just about anywhere I guess...I'm Christian, so I'm letting go of the past more and more. Whatever is for you is for you.

I wish I could audition for 'Power Rangers', but I'm aged out. (25) Though I look younger. I've been thinking about this for a while.

If film school is something you really want to do, I think you should look into that. Thanks for sharing that post. I know there's other people out there who feel the same way you do about their careers.

Did plays when I was younger, and was even on Japanese tv (re-enacting a striking scene with some other people), and did 2 years of Theatre arts in HS. So my acting is pretty okay once I got the lines down. But yeah, fun stuff.
And the past 2 years I've been doing Video Media arts then advanced. So I'm on my school's announcements and behind the camera now.

I joined a Performing Arts course last year, but I got out after a month and my parents were expecting it to happen.
it was such a harsh environment in there and I came home crying and feeling stressed...
acting isn't for me. sigh.
