Guhhh...this was the exact sentiment that I had felt was what was going on.

And to answer someones question earlier, if I had been given a role on Power Rangers, would I turn my back on the series that gave me my break? HELL NO. I might go and do other things, sure, but I would be proud of my time spent inside the helmet.

And its not even like people who dont turn their back on their fandom can't find work. Johnny Young Bosch is a prime example of this.

So yeah, if people kept coming up to me asking if I played a power ranger, I would happily tell them that yes I did.

If thats the only reason they won't hire me, then I don't need to be in their sodding movie anyway.

Same goes with Dragon Knight...

Again, it's easy for you to say all this because you're not an actor. You're not in their shoes. I'm not saying everyone who has played a superhero will then become a jerk about it and say the genre is lame, because there obviously are people who embrace it. But like it or not, there does seem to be a sort of stigma about playing these kind of roles. Even with stuff like Harry Potter, we keep hearing things about the cast not wanting to become typecast for all the years they spent on the shebang. I wonder how long it will be before Danny, Rupert or Emma start being British Odagiris.

Does this warrant someone like Odagiri saying what he says? No. But it doesn't give the audience license to automatically begin bashing them either. Try to see things from their perspective as well as your own. I may not like what Odagiri says about toku, but I'm not going to start irrationally hating the guy and making posts about how people like him need to be beaten down, unlike some people here. Because (1) it makes you look like an idiot, and (2) it just gives folks like him more fodder to deride the genre and the fandom.

Heh none, well actually 2. Nakia Burrise (Zeo Ranger 2 Yellow) and Michael Capone (TimeForce Blue Ranger). Nakia's in commercials though. So Mike is more successful since he's been in shows, and I think Dancing with the stars?

Plus Emma from Harry Potter, if I'm not mistakin didn't even want to do the latest potter movie.

Of course I don't expect every performer in let's say the superhero genre to be die-hard fans, but it wouldn't hurt to treat material with respect or just be tactful in voicing opinions. A superhero show and its fans made Odagiri popular, so it's not very wise to spit on them a few years later just because you wish you were a player in Jim Jarmusch movies.

Odagiri could have just said "Well, I'm not a fan of such shows, but I liked Kuuga, and the style in which is was done." That's it, nothing really negative about that, and he wouldn't have pissed off so many fans. But he felt the need to take it further, all because he thought it made him look "cool."

I'm glad that even Hiroshi Fujioka (Kamen Rider 1) make it big as an actor especially on action movies and as a celebrity, he didn't forget and he still recognizes Kamen Rider.

I'm glad he is not one of those snobby and ungrateful toku actors.

Masaru Nagai (TimeRed) is another one who now pretends he was never in tokusatsu and won't let anyone talk about it ever. I heard that he was once on a show with Tori Matsuzaka (ShinkenRed) and Matsuzaka made comments indirectly critical of ex-toku actors trying to deny how their careers started ... I'd like to see that clip :laugh:
