RIP Nostalgia Critic

No, Spoony was forcibly retired from the site because of an inappropriate joke that he made about rape to another That Guy With The Glasses contributor who was female. The whole thing snowballed completely out of control after that

They're both right; the joke thing got him suspended from the site but Spoony chose to leave completely once he realized the suspension didn't really mean anything & gave him time to realize how much he disagreed with the direction Channel Awesome was moving.

Its in his commentary for To Boldly Flee.

It also ruined Lord Kat's reputation after he made a video rant about it

Please no. Angry reviews need to be dead and buried. The less NC reviews, the better.

I don't necessarily agree, BUT I can see why many would say that. Just because you can make more material with things you hate or things that were just horrible, that doesn't mean that's all you have to focus on. If you share with us the things you love, your audience will have a stronger bond with you. They won't think less of you, and it's all in good fun, isn't it?

And not everyone follows the "have to hate it" rule. Linkara sometimes reviews comics that, even he admits, aren't all that bad. For someone named "Angry Joe", he's really not that angry all the time. He tends to be a really nice guy, especially when he is reviewing the games he is giving higher scores to. And almost all the people who make Abridged parodies aren't doing it because they hate the series; in fact most of the time, they love the series and are urging their fans to support it.

Point is, even if you love it, there's no harm in riffing on it a little. As long as it's all in good fun.

I used to love NC when he was in his prime (back in 2008, 2009, and early-mid 2010). But as years went by, the quality dwindled and he became less and less and less and less funny. I can name several reasons why.

First off, his reviews are WAY too long (like 25-30 minutes) and he doesn't really go in-depth. It's basically movie clip, unfunny joke, movie clip, forced meme we've seen a bajillion times, movie clip, screaming obnoxiously, movie clip, another unfunny joke with the possibility of a cameo, movie clip, more obnoxious screaming, movie ends and he gives a short summary. And many times, he would rehash or recycle old jokes, gags, memes, etc.

Even Doug himself admitted NC was getting stale when he retired the character. I can understand if this was a special occasion or something like that, but his hiatus was too short (it didn't even last a year) and every two weeks is not enough to keep it fresh.

A lot of people got sick and tired of NC, so he's pretty much milking a dead cow. He's doing it because the complainers on his site want him back. Real fans support you no matter what decision you make. If you don't wanna do something anymore and you don't have the passion anymore, STOP DOING IT.

Personally, I found Doug about two years ago & have followed everything he's done with Nostalgia Critic, Ask That Guy, CA anniversary films & demo reel, but didn't really find Bum Reviews or Video Game Confessions that funny.

But, I have to say, as with most reviewers on his site, they are generally only pretending to be angry & occasionally have to stretch reality, even for themselves, to make a joke. As a lover of film myself, I usually make up my own mind about a film, book or game I've seen & watch reviews to see where people agree & don't agree with me.

While I admit, NC isn't always absolutely hilarious, he has had some really funny reviews in recent years on occasion- namely Digimon the Movie & Scooby Doo- but I don't watch it just for the humor and that's why I am glad to see him back, but as a fellow struggling lover of film, I, once again, do feel sorry that Demo Reel fell through. I didn't think it was all that bad... but, then again, I have the humor of a middle aged English Professor, so I don't know...

Not exactly. First of all, it's HIS decision to bring back the NC because his revenue had ups and downs for the past 4 months and Demo Reel got few appeals from the audience, especially fans of NC as they're already sick and tired of it from the very start.

I am surprised no one has mentioned how the Nostalgia Critic posted his newest episode today. He has officially returned, and he is in full form.

Guess that means the title of this thread should change...
