Power Rangers RPM - "Brother's Keeper" Talk Up!

Because the K wasn't enough of a Death Note reference, now we've got the good-ol' chained at the hip...er...arm thing.

-I know that many may disagree with me but I thought this was a very fine episode (Of course, anything that I don't turn off halfway through is a fine episode to me so, yeah...)

-I got nervous when I noticed we had gone 5 minutes of straight-up fighting but then I remembered that this series has a tendency of putting the fighting in a few scenes and then saving the character development for all the remaining time. Or I just liked the episode. One of the two.

-I literally went "OH ****" when I noticed that the Grinder hit Scott's car because I've seen this happen enough on TV and real life to know what was coming next.

-The entire conversation that K and Summer had was just straight out hilarious. If this were another show, I would have thought that they would have started cursing at each other. "Which one do you think is the 10?" I'm surprised that they even acknowledged the triangle. Man, this is still Power Rangers right?

-The Dillon fight was really nice. But then again, it seems that all the unmorphed fights are nice. I was sure that Dillon was about to smack Summer halfway across the room for some reason.

-Oh K, how I pity you. You're so detached from society and so guilty about the Venjix Virus and Gem/ma's "deaths" that you have abandoned any other sort of close friendship. Summer even called her out on the first name thing. That was deep.

-And here's the comedy relief of handcuffs. IMO, not too bad. The usual stuff happened like Scott messing with Dillon and them having to use the shower in the same place (Once again, this is still Power Rangers right?) but it was all llighthearted fun. Every day can't be the apocalypse can it? Well, in a kids show anyway

-This series has to have the most impractical weapons ever. Just look at the entirety of Ranger Yellow Part 2. And today handcuffs battle! Freakin' handcuffs. I thought they would slip up a lot but the show really worked with it.

-But now, here's the highlight of the episode for me. I'm not even sure if this has happened before but using the Japanese original in a way that it was not even intened to be used (In a good way of course). I am talking of course about using the freaking Wheel Blaster as a separate weapon which, when you think about it, makes perfect sense. I mean, why not use that thing as a weapon. That morphed fight was pretty well done too with the "Cover Me!" and all that.

-Aaannnd....the cat's out of the bag. "Everything you've been though...is all my fault." ooooh, chills.

I'd give the episode a 4.5/5 if we could vote that here so I'll just round up to a 5. Half a point reduced for the little bit over-excessive fighting but that's a small thing.

Only 3 Kalish-splosions this episode! (I'm talking about the big ones not the sparky ones) Though that first one when Black went flying, I was like "Whoa, I don't think his body is supposed to twist that way."

Rated Ryan Mitchell, whatever that's supposed to mean. Some ridiculous writing and story choices are making me increasingly worried about RPM...

Errrrmmm....

Pro:

- Dillon vs Tenaya 7 battle was pretty good.
- I still like Doc K and her pajamas and slippers. How cute! :anime:
- Dillon slapped Ziggy's face. One point for that.

Con:

- "Brother's Keeper"? Why? What does it has to do with Dillon and Scott? Are they brothers or what?
- Ugh... Why three huge explosions?
- Ziggy, I really like that character, but he needs to stop being goofy during battle against the grunts. Really... stop. It's time for you to learn how to be smart and fight properly.
- Short megazord battle.

I'm giving this 3 out of 5. Not that great episode, it's ridiculous.

I can't stand those explosions, they just drive me nuts and look so stupid. They've always done the same damn way too with that normal speed, super fast motion and then overlong drawn out screams in super slow motion. It's just...so damn annoying and tiring (and this is coming from someone who hasn't sat through much of SPD a.k.a. LSD, Mystic Force a.k.a. Mystic Farce, or Operation Overdrive a.k.a. Operation Overkill).

I DID like the non fighting stuff though. Well, lemme take it back for a second. I'm still not crazy about the fight scenes but they've VERY much improved over the last few years, so I won't be too hard on them. The chained together thing was fun and not cheesy almost at all. The Summer and K chat about the love triangle was fantastic and a overarching plot with K and the virus plus Ranger Series Black (because she calls them that for a reason :P) and his issues keeps you wanting to see the next episode.

It's been very good and despite a couple dud episodes, I've been very happy with this season so far.

OH, and the wheel blaster used outside of the zords threw me off...and even more so when it had Star Wars blaster sounds. :-P

So yeah, I just watched this on youtube, and I have to say it was another very decent episode. The scott and dillon rivalry moments were well done, as well as the Summer/Dillon Hints. I also love the cliffhanger they left us with, with Dr K revealing that she created Venjix to the team (So I was right all along she definitely did create Venjix). So it's definitely not FR Venjix. I'm tired and can't be bothered to do a full review, so all in all this was a great episode.

4.75 out of 5

Great episode certainly! The fight at the begining was starting to get WAY WAY WAY too long and the Megazord 'fight' was completly pointless. It should have just been cut.

I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but I really didn't like how easy it was for Scott and Dillon to break out of the chain at the end. All they had to do was morph. I definitely would have explored that option WAY EARLIER, like before hopping into the shower with a dude chained to me. Feels like they needed a better solution to that whole thing since them being chained/stuck together played such a huge part in the episode.

That aside, the episode was great, really fun and entertaining. Love the Doc K/Summer late-night slumber party moment and Ziggy just doesn't have bad moments.

I'd like to see more Flynn but RPM seems to just have too many great characters and not enough time, which is far better than past seasons where it felt like the other way around.

Considering it's the future, why couldn't it have been some crazy strong rope material? The chained together thing really bothered me this episode.

I guess I assumed that the chain was made out of some super reinforced nano-steel Doctor K techno babble material, which is why Dillon couldn't just shred it. But then that's what made the moment when they morph and easily break the chain all the more WTF?/unsatisfying for me.
