Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 8 - "A New Magic Stone"

Finally got around to seeing this episode. No excuse for lateness, just kept putting it off. Also, I am in college, and this semester is my hardest yet. To be honest, I've been dreading this episode. Bratty kid episodes are hard to choke down sometimes.
-A White Garuda?! I WANT!!! *u* I love rare and limited edition merchandise.
-The scene where the kid kicks the guys in the boy-loins and accuses Rinko of kidnapping was bad enough, but seriously, how did that accomplish anything? I'll admit, seeing his past was kind of tragic, and maybe he does have some issues with his parents, but how did that serve any point? Am I missing something?
EDIT: On second observation, it was Haruto who had the tragic backstory, not the kid. He's just upset his parents don't make more time for him. But it still confuses me why he did that. I don't see how it would have solved anything or why he was compelled to attack Haruto and his friends that way.
-However, the scene at the donut shop is hilarious. And why does the kid have the same fashion sense as Shunpei? *Is tempted to play a Mini-Me clip*
-But that bonding scene with Haruto was actually really nice and heartwarming. ^u^
-Oh dayum. Phoenix did that?! Oh heck no! Phoenix, you done messed up now. Wizard is NOT a Rider you wanna piss off! Prepare to feel his red hot Flame Style revenge!
-...Or not. Wow. Phoenix is really kicking his butt in all forms!
Well, that was it. I knew it would be another two parter, but the preview for the next episode has got me EXTREMELY excited! :anime:

- If the White Wizard is Wiseman, what is the point of making Haruto a Rider? Is this another "play both sides" like BOARD and Kougami?
- Why is Shunpei dressed exactly like Hiroki? (What are those polka-dot tights he's wearing?? :redface2
And why is it that in these shows Japanese mothers who don't seem that much older than the lead female characters look so different than them?
- Car crashes and illnesses seem the most common form of death in these shows. Didn't Gentaro's parents die in a car crash too?
- I like how Wiseman is shown as a man behind the curtain. Almost like how the Great Leader in Showa Rider kept himself concealed or disguised most of the time.
- What was that thing Hiroki's dad got him? It looks like some cross between Garuda from Gransazer and JeanBot from the Ultraman Zero movies.
- I really like the music that plays just before Phoenix and Haruto start their duel. Though the belt's yapping kind of dampens the mood.
- Why are Medusa and Phoenix in Hiroki's house next time?

I think ideally a Kamen Rider show is supposed to have some degree of this albeit within the parameters of making a show both kids and adults can enjoy together. To borrow a phrase from Doctor Who fandom there's a little bit of "watching from behind the couch" with Kamen Rider. But it's not about making everything grimdark.
Yeah. The danger of having that kind of power the personality of selfish bullying child behind it.

None of that "couch" nonsense thank you, if you're talking about Doctor Who. "Settee", or perhaps "sofa", but never "couch". :nono2: But one of the USPs of Kamen Rider of old (and Ishinomori's work more widely) was that it mixed in darker aspects, and it's always nice to see them show up again from time to time.

So I'm guessing the term "couch" is not used for it in England? Or is this a case where that word means something else entirely over there.

It is used, but it's not so common as settee/sofa, and is sometimes considered a bit "lower-class." (I saw a newspaper cartoon once where a girl is in tears and says "What did I say to offend your mother?" and her boyfriend replies "Couch.") I think if you said couch a lot of people would think of psychiatrists
On topic, I can't be the only person who saw Haruto fall into the water and hoped that Toshiki Inoue will never be allowed anywhere near this show ...

Thoughts and feelings on Wizard 8:
-New form and not even on episode 10 yet? Shoo, i kinda hope this goes for a while before the next REAL upgrade. Is nice to see the Dragon used as something more then just a mount in other people's heads, or will be nice to see.
-Kinda hoping WW and Wiseman are different people, if only to avoid an obvious plot twist, but it would be interesting either way.
-Haven't seen much more bike love, but I'll take lack of bike combat over forcing it into every episode. Makes it better when it does show up.
-Can Shunpei have a character evolution yet? Or..I dunno, leave the show?
-Want to see more from Dept. Zero, or what ever the secret group of the government was again.
-Seeing Haruto's past, and then seeing him rage at Phoenix was great, as was him getting his rear handed to him so easily. I don't think Phoenix will be exploding next episode, or at least I hope not. He's a cool badguy, kinda like Nasca was (in my opinion).
