Kamen Rider Drive - News/Rumours Thread 1

New 'Riders' teased for Drive... although they seem to actually be the two Deadheat forms for Drive and Mach, and... Rider 3.

Maybe we'll get tie in episodes to SHT GP?

Do we know how the toy sales are doing? I read an article that said that Drive's merch is being overtaken by the popularity of Frozen and Youkai Watch.

Of course, it is livedoor and they don't give anything concrete besides what's being sold online, but I guess I might not be the only one feeling Drive's merch? Or at least it's not measuring up to the popularity of other things at the moment.

Thats not a bad thing for the overseas Rider fans. Less sales means cheaper online prices for us. Maybe the Shift Car gimmick isn't appealing enough for Japanese kids. They are just hot wheels cars after all.

Not sure how ToQger is lighting up sales, but I can't help but think Toei decided to apply the concept they used with Toq of "oh hey, lets try to get the Train Otaku to buy all these tiny toy trains!" but replace that with the Tomica crowd(which is pretty significant from what i remember). On paper Toy Cars have been a toy mainstay in a lot of countries for childrens toys and as cringe worthy as some of the shift cars are worked into the show, I'm looking at YOU Rolling Gravity, they have been pretty well designed from a "this is a cool looking toy car" part.

Toqger's toys, up to the second quarter, were doing worse than Kyoryuger, although still fine for Sentai overall. It really shouldn't be having any influence on the Rider line, which has had bigger numbers since Decade.

The shift cars also look way worse than something like Hotwheels, so I don't get who they'd be appealing to with something like that. Bandai was already expecting Drive to have a fairly big drop though (the first six months of this year were almost two billion yens ahead of last years, but they seemingly expected this year to end two billions behind last year, so they were expecting a big drop off for Drive's toys months before the show even started... which doesn't make sense), but I don't get the strategy there.

Whether or not the Shift Cars are designed poorly or greatly is relevant to the person, but that shouldn't be the argument here. Another thing is that Gaim was also selling well in it's first quarter, if I remember correctly. There always seems to be a drop for the series airing during the second quarter.

We're still in Drive's first quarter though...
