Joss Whedon on Why DC Sucks in Movies....

Remember removing Mary Jane from the Spider-Man world? That reinvented Spider-Man and everyone cried themselves to sleep saying it was a terrible comic.

Newsflash: It IS a terrible comic.

Sales have plummeted, and the title hit it's lowest numbers since the 1990s recently. Oh, but watch the MTV Marvel Zombie generation chastise the TRUE fans who give a **** as "crying" and "acting like babies", refusing to see the damage that's been done...we're better fans than they are, we're not rebelling for the sake of rebelling, we have a little something called "integrity". Most Marvel Zombies, the kind that pick apart at those with common sense, don't have any of that, there content with rewarding stupidity.

It didnt change anything, it took away a very strong, relatable character that matured the main protaganist, turned her husband into an immature adolescent who lives with his aunt, and just does it's darndest to recreate the inconsequential tone of the 1970s. All they did was prove once again why Spider-Man hasnt been releavant since 1999...his story was told years ago, and the unprecedented eleven year run of Spider-Girl and the near ten year run of Ultimate Spider-Man proves you don't need the original continuity whatsoever. Marvel are only keeping the mainstream continuity around out of obligated greed, not to keep it's heart alive.

And there's not ONE independent writer on ASM anymore. It's SEVERAL. Get your facts straight

It's not Marvels fault of when they change their characters and people hate it, it's the auidence.

Isnt it Marvel's obligation to satisfy the audience?

If there not doing that, it IS their fault.

Think McFly, think.

There's nothing wrong with it, but then it's just a matter of opinion at the end of the day. Just because you say it sucks doesn't mean it does. Christ some of the opinions you come out with on here sometimes are brilliantly funny.

This is just a person attack on me which is bit low and sad. Love how you think I've only been reading comics since what, 2 years ago that came out? But no no, you're a far better fan than me with all your... "integrity".

I can't comment on sales figures as I don't keep up with them, but you posted on here ripping the **** out of someone who quoted them before sayng they were lies. Turn around then?

He was always been a strong character and he's never really matured or he wouldn't be Spider-Man. And yes, greed is what makes the world spin round.

I never said there was one independent writer on ASM anymore. Read my post... straight.

Christ, it's people like you that keep the social theory that comics are read by losers in their parents basement, who sit and argue about what they 'think' they know about the industry. What is it about comics that makes people 'I know more than you' retards?

It's not big and it's not clever.

Hal Jordan is guilty as charged

Hey! Thou shalt not take the name of Hal Jordan in vain!

See this is why I only read Green Lantern and more independent stuff.

I like Joss Whedon, and to an extent I agree with him. DC comic's characters are more iconic than marvel characters. Yeah spiderman and wolverine are mega-popular, but ask someone to draw their favorite super heroes logo and they'll either draw the big S shield, the bat logo, or the green lanterns symbol. It's just the way of the world.

It's hard to write for a character that has super strength, flying, heat vision, x-ray vision, and a miyrad of other powers (trust me, I've tried to do Superman scripts, its not easy..). Batman is a little bit easier to write, no powers and such.

The supposedly-"realistic" Batman is now more powerful and invincible than he really should be (and done so in a really childish way). So much that it's become a double-standard in relation to the rest of DC's roster. DC might as well have changed its name to Bat-Comics.

When dealing with their own characters, Marvel is at the bottom of the barrel. But on the plus side, they are starting to diversify! Diversification has become their strong point lately. Their comic version of The Wizard of Oz actually looks interesting.

Marvel Wizard of OZ? Please tell me they didn't darken it

The trick to writing Superman is simple. Take any human story about a mystery, love, corporate corruption or various other things, and then throw in the superpowers. The Superpowers don't define him. If you can't grasp that, you've already failed at writing for him

I agree very strongly with ryussu. Marvel's strength is diversity, not their main titles, but I don't know if the general public will ever catch on to that for it to matter in the long-term. Marvel have been working hard towards diversity for ten years, with mixed success. It remains to be seen if they can finally get the message across.

As for Bats becoming a one-man multiverse...it's a great idea, it does something different with the character, it gives him that superstitious edge to the point not even the heroes know what he is anymore. Imagine the arguments he'll have with Hal Jordan NOW. Bats was always the one who doubted Jordan after he redeeemed himself, now Bats is something else entirely, the shoe's on the other foot.

Blame Geoff Johns, he's a good writer but he took Hal in the wrong direction. Just look at Hal how he is now, he's the unimaginative highschool jock that beats up citizens and people on his own side when they either A. Don't agree with him or B. he's angry over something stupid. And all he makes with his Ring now is something related to planes or fists. Not heroic, not using the idea of the Green Lantern to his full potential anymore. Honestly they need to revert Hal to his pre Parallax days or make him more like Kyle. Same goes for Hal in the upcoming movie.

Don't get me wrong though I still religiously read Green Lantern and GL Corps.

Although I think part of that was everyone hating the writer because supposedly he's a complete dick, yadda yadda. I've stated a few times on here that it was just fanboys with their panties in a twist about it rather than bad writing or decision. It changed the story for the time being, God forbid anyone tries to do that.

It's not Marvels fault of when they change their characters and people hate it, it's the auidence.

I think i went off topic a bit.

it's not reinventing the character, it's just returning things to the stereotypical status quo kinda like how geoff jones got rid of kyle rayner as the main green lantern, recreated the corps and once again put hal jordan at the center of the green lantern series

reinventing the character would be something like, mary jane giving birth to a son named Ben and having Spiderman have to deal with being both a father, a photographer, a husband and a superhero

or like what they're doing with the ultimate spiderman series which remains as fresh as it was since it started all those years ago
