I find it increasingly hard to defend Goseiger

It's not a Bad show to me, if anything, i think it's better than Shinkenger.
Mind i wasn't really a fan of Shinken.

Shinkenger was more interesting, at least in the beginning. I dropped Goseiger long before I dropped Shinkenger, if that's any indication of quality.

Most issues people have with it are the with the Mecha design (mostly the Headders) or the blantent Merchandising for Dice-O, forgetting that this is Tokusatsu, a genre that LIVES on the Merchandise.

And then there are people who just really don't like the characters, often unfairly comparing them to the Shinkengers.

First of all, that's not an excuse. No one is saying we can't have toys, but Toei's "quantity over quality" approach that it's adopted for the past decade has been quite grating.

People hate Goseiger because of the following:
- Barely any overarching plot
- Barely any use of the motif (Regarding this one, I don't know why people assume using the angel premise has to mean a large religious emphasis. There is nothing "angelic" about Goseiger, religious or not.) It's just Toei/Bandai going "Yeah they're angels. Who use cards. Arcade cards. Shut up and buy our stuff."
- The heroes are both annoyingly bland and apparently lacking in any sense (ie: Eri)
- There doesn't seem to be anything at stake. The Goseiger are cut off from their home at the beginning of the show, and everyone acts as though everything's just peachy. There's apparently no consequence to them being stuck on Earth. No real reason to care.
- The aforementioned merchandise overload. (Microphone? Datas Hyper? Pointless Knight Brothers? Really?)

I happen to like the Headder concept, particularly the idea of them adapting the bodies of machines that humans use (in essence adapting to Earth). But Toei/Bandai screwed it up yet again with their fierce loyalty to the "quantity over quality" approach. With Headders you already had the idea of two mechas in one. (Just switch the heads!) But we still have to have all these extra Brother sets, Knight Brothers, a green ostrich and dumb arcade robot. GoseiGreat, Grandleon, GoseiUltimate and the Wonder Headders would have been enough.

I actually quite like the individual designs for the mecha, especially Gosei Ground and Great. Just that I tend to NOT like the designs when they add stuff to it...IE: The Brother weapons, and Gosei Hyper.

As for Goseiger itself...from what I see of it: It feels very...bland. Like a lot of it is been there, done that already...I will say this: I do like Gosei Knight quite a bit though.

why does everybody hate Shinkenger? D:
i loved it, and it was only Samurai Ha-oh which i found hard to swallow but i accepted it nonetheless

Because after ep. 12 the plot became stagnant, clowns like Richard Brown and Genta entered the scene, Juuzo did next to nothing, and it turned into a Bandai commercial with the misnomer Origamis and other gadgets. Not to mention that the heroes' characterizations followed the exact same pattern with little deviation.

A shitload of fillers, basically as Fang explained.

But I'm actually fan of Shinkenger, but it's basically for the parts of the show that was non-filler/mecha-focused episodes where the plot actually moved. The thing about Shinkenger is that it had a REALLY STRONG PLOT, but there was way too many fillers in the damn show for any1 to see the plot move at all until towards the end of the series.

I loved Goseiger over some other sentai's (Without mentioning names) For one reason Goseiger knows how to keep the story fresh rather than boring me to death on the same old thing, seriously Goseiger has one of the most altered themes i have ever seen, if every 16 episodes we enter a new arc with new villains and new power-ups this is no doubt a great thing to keep you watching because you never know what will come next, plus Goseiger is really about your own taste in sentai, i mean there is some sentai anyone can watch and adjust to easily, but for Goseiger its really up to the viewers personal taste and what he\she likes to see.

And yes i do love Shinkenger! :buttrock:

I think Goseiger's main problem were the first few episodes. They failed to introduce the concept of "Gosei Angels" well and even the "Goseiger" themselves. The destruction of the tower to Gosei world was very rushed too. It was basically destroyed before being introduced.

Then, the initial 10 episodes featured several comments that were basically "Landicks are X", "Skyicks are X", which made the characters seem more one dimensional than they actually were. Later episodes never returned to cover those flaws either, although they did their own things, which generally have been better, although nothing outstanding.

However due to those initial problems that were never actually addressed, several people just can't get into the characters or the show.

Personally, I am among the people enjoying this more than Shinkenger, but I wouldn't rate it high compared to other Sentai shows.
