Ratings aren't really that important for midnight programs, it's dvd/bd sales that counts more.

Garo 6:

- That fat Horror playing the girl on his back like a guitar looked funny.

- Shin has the exact same face of a girl I know.

- Why would a studio recording be broadcasting to the whole city?

- I don't get what Ryuga did at the end. Didn't Shin end up not using the Horror scale after all? And what would destroying the computer do? Doesn't the song only work when the scale is used? Or do recordings of songs made with it work too?

- These CGI Knight costumes are getting to be a bit annoying. Having physical costumes looks so much better.

Well, if the song is released to the public and was a hit, then it will spread to the whole city.

Shin did use the scale in the end. That's why Ryuuga was having a tough time fighting the Horror. The way I take is that the sound waves produced by using the scale as a pick was what stimulated the Horrors. Ryuuga destroyed the PC because it recorded those sound waves.

I don't consider ratings to be valid as to whether a show is good or bad, as ratings are fickle. For example, do those ratings for Makai account for people who recorded the show and watched it the next day, or only those who were actually watching the show as it aired? What about for those who watched it streaming? Both streaming and DVR have pretty much made ratings a dinosaur.

Ratings do matter in Japan, as many shows have planned episodes that are either extended due to high ratings or chopped down due to **** ass ratings. Television studios count ratings on all medias, which can affect how a show is distributed and the lifeline of a show.

Garo is not streamed. Garo is only aired.

So yeah, ratings do matter. How else in the hell has Garo managed to survive this long...

... ratings.

Not so much for late night program or colloquially known as Otaku O clock=shows that aired from around 11 p.m. until the wee hours of the morning, occasionally indicated by the odd-looking "22:00-27:00" annotation. In this case, GARO aired from 25:23
I've already written about why DVD sales matter more. But I'm too bored to write again. The fact is, late show are never considered successful by their rating, but DVD sales. Case in point, Baccano sold around 2000-4000 I think, and it was considered flop and was not renewed. Durarara sold around 20k-30k, which made it a resounding success. Also, not late night show but GARO Red Requiem's box office was a bust, it didn't even break the top 10. The DVD and BD on the other hand, are quite successful. All of them totaling around 10369 copies which is considered successful. 6000 is usually what is considered successful for niche shows like this. Late night shows are usually watched by niche audience (Otaku) anyway

Oh well, I don't really care if anyone will listen anyway. Believe in what you want to believe, it's a free world you know. Listening to complainers here is enough to bored me anyway.

I know who the late night programming blocks cater to. The reason why programming gets that 'odd number' is because television stations go off the air, so any programming that continues beyond 12 midnight counts for that "same day" until it goes off air, thus something like 25:00 and not 1am.

Anyway.

TV Tokyo knows its demographic and markets according to that demographic. TV Tokyo is not aired nationally all of Japan does not get TV Tokyo. Instead, TV Tokyo shows are syndicated through local broadcasters. TV Tokyo is a bit different and mostly known to have program that specifically caters to the nerds. It takes all these factors into effect but if a show tanks in ratings, it tanks. Of course they'll release the show on a physical medium because they know that, due to Japan's consumerist society (and taking into consideration how nerds consume this ****), it will perform stronger. But medium sales doesn't necessarily equate to a show continuing an actual broadcast. It could only mean that the show will be released direct to video or through another outlet, such as a theatrical film.

Also, ratings in the lower percentage are normal for all shows in the late night spot. It would be a miracle of any show scored higher than a 2%. It doesn't matter if its an anime or some annoying talk show variety.

GARO's latest movie was on a limited release, it can only explain why it was at my local theater for only a week before being pulled. It doesn't matter if the movie is a box office bust or not because they're gonna recoup the loss in BR/DVD sales anyway. Movies are a whole another beast, that's comparing apples to oranges. They maybe the same fruit but they still different.

Well, Garo Season 3 for now has quite a good rating. Episode 5 just hit 2% if anyone's interested.

Let's hope the dvd/bluray sales will be good. I would love to see the Garo franchise to go on with Ryuga, or even new protagonists in new cities. The chances are higher too if the ratings are good as well.

Speaking of movie. So Red Requiem was a failure box office wise? Well, the movie kinda bored me...the action was too slow mo. How well did Dragon of Blue Cry perform?

And I wonder if there's a market for the spinoff movie featuring Jabi and Rekka? That movie was kinda random
