Garo: The One Who Shines in the Darkness episode 25

I know, I mostly only made a point of it because I honestly couldn't tell what you meant until Hidden replied.

Then something just kinda clicked.

I'm now done with this 3rd season, and overall .......... i did not like it at all as much as i liked the previsous seasons.

Keita Amemiya is not directing it and it clearly shows.
It seriously lacks in writing, directing, characterisation, action.
Overall it's boring, there were very few episodes where i was like "whoa! this is Garo !!"

I have nothing against new characters, CGI (the production has it's reasons), bad acting (there were worst in past movies: Mary Matsuyama") but lots against a show that was not greatly done.
We had:
3 weak knights with much less powers than their predecessors, i don'tremember a flaming sword, nor a super big sword nor wings, very few power ups indeed.
2 very weak supporting knights, i don't remember seing a single episode fully centered on one of them where there were some really badass zero episodes in season 2 (ep with Juzo or ep with the tree) so thoses guys have a very slim background.
also i found them kind of useless, the only episode where aguri was used was the one with the slime horror and after that nothing.
And finally i don't remember seing them killing a single horror, not even an inga. All the madou were killed by Ryuga.
Why saving that girl in the early episodes and keeping her in the show if it's to not use her anymore ? Takeru had someone to protect, (Tousei had a possible prey), but it did not show.

The show had some incoherences with it's own universe like:
Isn't soul metal the only matter that can kill an horror ? aren't makai knights weapons made of soul metal ? if so, how Rivera could survive after recieveing Aguri's arrow right in her neck ? it was as if nothing happened, she was not even wounded.
Why wounding very badly Takeru then Ryuga if it's to heal them 1 episode later ? too easy of a short cut IMO (and the show took many easy path). A blind "daredevil" garo could have been interesting.

Where were the monsters ? nowhere, they were all the same
Where were the really creepy horrors ? (clown in S1, masterminds in S1 and S2 ...etc), I'm still searching
Where were the watchdogs ? clearly missing.

The show started displaying some interesting and promising characters characters, (Enhou), but waisted their potential. it would have been nice to see Enhou fighting her horror side and slowly loosing., but it ended abruptly in the early episodes. She disapeared from the show ans sundenly came back right when i had forget about her ....
In the end, i have more the feeling of a kamen rider with few power ups transposed into the garo universe.

In the end, although the director knows what Garo is about, his work did not hit the right side.

On the good side (yes i have a few)
Fresh characters and a few nice fights.

Garo 25:

- Burai's room makes me think of Persia or Ottoman Turkey.

- Only now are we getting even a hint as to why the Garo armor turned black?

- Why did Burai tell Rian her father was dead almost immediately, but waited ten years to tell Ryuga his mother was the same??

- I like the ending song.

I have to ask though, was this final episode really necessary? It feels like it could've just been a normal flashback piece like Season 1's "Taiga dies and Kouga takes his place" and Season 2's "Kouga at Makai Camp".

"So why did the GARO armor turn black?"

explained away in an episode that holds no importance to the season's story by some peripheral character who last time we saw killed Magimother and then got double Rider kicked and hit by his own spaceship.

I knew that guy was familiar... Which Rider show was he in?

I wasn't holding out much hope for this episode when I heard it was going to be a prequel (though if it had been like the prequel episode in Season 2 with the training camp that would have been awesome. That's actually one of my favorite episodes of that season). At least that means I wasn't terribly disappointed in it when I finally watched it.

I didn't mind this episode. It's basically just a side story, but that's better than some boring clip show (yes I know there were a couple of repeated scenes). Just something else to tie me over until Over-Time release the latest movie and the Zero mini-series starts airing. At least it was more interesting than that Kiba side story.

As for the reason given for the armour losing it's shine, I was fine with that. As has been said by other people, it was a line that stimulates your imagination, and sadly most people seem to have interpreted it as basically "well the batteries ran down". Personally I thought the line implied that there had been some epic battle against a Messiah-like Horror and the Garo at the time had to release all the armour's energy at once in a big blast to defeat it. They've spent all season telling us that the golden light of the Garo armour is some kind of special power. That's not a surprise now. Heck, it's not an entirely new concept, given that previous series have depicted the armour sprouting golden symbols in the air, spontaniously growing complicated wing structures, and even being carried down from the heavens in pieces by cherubic angels to be assembled around Kuuga! So it was always more than just a few bits of tin.

As for the series in general, I preferred it to season two. But that's more due to how disappointed I was with Makai Senki than anything else. It was OK, but I can't say I'm desperate to see more from these characters.

Just finished watching this series...

(hey guys, its been a while)

Just like everyone else, it doesn't compare to the first two seasons. Rian sucks as a Priest, she's CUTER...but compared to Jubei, its like she's never picked up a brush until 20 minutes ago.

Ryuuga is...a child. I can see how he earned the title of GARO, but it was painfully obvious he was never respected as Garo. I just wanted him to grow up.

Agui is well...an obvious response to the Avengers Hawkeye. i like the idea, though. He's cool but we didn't learn enough about him and why he is "the quiet emotionless one"

Takeru is of course the "young hot-head" trope, i liked him the most. I did hate how he was the SUPER emotional and over reacted to everything. Maybe its just me, but his attachment to the young girl was creepy, unless that's a japanese thing to be an adult involved with a high school girl. I hated he lost his hand, gaining the soul metal fist was cool, but it didn't advance him as a character, nor did it make much of a difference.

That whole "blind but not really blind" was the stupidest thing I ever seen. It was like they didn't even try to make him believably blind. they could have AT LEAST given him a blindfold.

And why were they worried about Volcity being taken over by Zedom and not i dunno...THE ENTIRE WORLD????

Over all it had its OH SNAP moments, but nothing like with Kouga or Rei. Its an enjoyable series, and I look forward.

I can't wait till the new season :)
