G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Official Talkback

And critics that already have their mind made up as a result of this poor marketing. I really don't see how anyone could hate on this movie or give it a low score.

Only reason I can see this scoring low is because bad reviews are more entertaining to read and write than just enjoying a movei for what it is.

Hey, I'm all about enjoying a movie. I loved Transformers. I just felt like this movie threw lasers at my eyes to the point where I didn't care. I thought the humor was tame but enjoyable, and that the writing and pacing of the story had no build up or climax. All the character's stories were thrown at you in a contrived manner. None of it felt natural.

I think it's a fun movie to watch. But it didn't stimulate me at all. I wouldn't find myself watching it again. Though I did enjoy watching "The Doctor" and "Cobra Commander" (for how little he was on the screen in his full regalia.)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You know that's why GI Joe the cartoon as created right?

This GI Joe cartoon?

Yes I know, hence why I said "new generation" since I know they created the cartoon just for marketing purposes. Hell, that's how Transformers was first created and then they decided to create a whole storyline on it. And then they decided to market any kids cartoon series just to make more money like Thundercats, Silverhawks, He-Man and so on.

Wait are you saying the critics gave G.I. Joe a low score because of marketing? No, critics, well good critics, are going to critique a movie based on what they see, not what the general audience likes or what the box office says.

See its a fun movie but on cinema and story telling standards, well to critics, it was fairly awful. Horrible writing, bad acting, a nonsensical plot, horrible CGI, awful dialogue, etc. That's how someone would give G.I. Joe a low score. But then again by being all of that it managed to be true to Joe.

Here Keith just read a professional critique on the movie, not some fanboy bashing review.

Though the CGI scenes was painful to watch, everything else was ridiculously awesome.

The scene when they were in Paris was AMAZING. I didn't think they'd make it so long!

I really had this feeling that they brought the cartoon back to life. I was also suprised they didn't give characters like Scarlet or Breaker the "cannon-fodder" role.

Very entertaining, and I feel this movie does justice over the original cartoon movie *shudders*. Hell, I think this movie was much better than Transformers 2, only because they didn't resort to pissy teenage drama or bathroom jokes.

In various points, the film surpassed my expectations (I literally thought they were going to whore out Snake Eyes). To Joe fans, you'll appreciate a lot of the references they put into it.

And then there was the part where Cobra Commander puts on his mask and goes "And you'll call me... COMMANDER". Damn that was epic as hell.

This movie certainly has its moments. I really want to see like a director's cut or special features or something for this movie. :buttrock:

Thats what the other flashbacks did, sort of, not this one. This one just already established what we've known and ruined the downtrodden mood of the current scene with a couple of kids beating the crap out of each other. It didn't need to be there. Instead it could have just been little Snake Eyes scrounging for food and then being discovered by one of those Monks or whatever.

I didn't watch the show at all, nor have I watched any of the recent shows.

And thats why there was a flashback showing the rivalry between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The one I said that didn't need to be there was the flashback Snake Eyes had, the one where he stole the food and got caught by Storm Shadow. The flashback Storm Shadow had showing the two competing with each other created some depth on the two characters and fit with the movie, better than the other flashbacks at least. Although its placement in the movie was pretty damn random. Like I said already, Snake Eyes' flashback ruined the mood just so it could have a couple kids beating each other up. All it established was that the two hate each other, something that was already established earlier.

Only for your opinion Haitien, but then what good can it do not showing to the younger fans who were just born 5 Years ago? Will that even do justice for them that they weren’t that as informed as we? And in all seriousness, this entire show rocks to the max and the CGI is just fine alongside the acting. Most people complain about Cs (Cartoons) turning into LAMs (Live action) because it may not resemble or, have as badass sceneries as that of the cartoons. But again, in all seriousness… G.I. Joe (LAM) is one solid movie worth watching.

If you read the rest of my post you'd see that I stated there were other scenes that already established and added depth to the rivalry between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, scenes that didn't interrupt the movie and destroy the mood of the current scene. Those scenes were enough for those that never watched Joe before like myself. Five year old kids aren't going to care about anything in this movie except the back to back action and the toys. And well if you read my others posts you would see that I did say that this movie was fairly true to the original series.

The CGI itself was fine depending on the standards, for example if this movie was some cheap low budget movie the CGI would have been understandable. But it wasn't a low budget movie, it was a big budget major summer production, and the CGI looked incredibly cheap thats undeniable. Hell there were scenes were it was just big gray blocks you see in post production versions of films. Thats just plain unacceptable for a major production. Imagine going to a fancy restaurant, you order your food and they serve you McDonalds, unacceptable. Its like they decided to forget about finishing the effects on those scenes and just give the millions of dollars meant for the CGI to Christopher Eccleston because he's just that damn awesome.

Going to see it today. But a bud told me about TF2 and now I wanna see that more lol.

But ya I can't wait to see Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow. :buttrock:

To be honest you'll probably be more pleased with G.I. Joe. If you just want Autobot action from TF2 you're gonna get only about 40 minutes of it in a 2 hour and 40 minute movie. G.I. Joe action is pretty much most of the movie despite the sub par CGI.

I thought to movie was okay. I could've been better but it was okay overall. One thing I didn't like about the movie was the connection between Duke and Baroness. It just didn't work for me. I liked the Cobra Commander through and through. I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a great job. I must say that Sienna Miller looks better as a brunette but that's just may personal opinion.

I hope the sequel will be better... if there's a sequel.
