Doctor Who -Talk Up! (General Discussion)

When's the new season start? Not until next Spring - for goodness sake, we have a Christmas special first, and they're only just starting to film the sixth series itself!

SJA's fourth season commenced yesterday and it was nifty spooky stuff, nice to see Julian Bleach in another villain role too

David Tennant on leaving Doctor Who

There's an interesting interview in the latest issue of the Radio Times in which David Tennant looks back on leaving Doctor Who, and insists that he has no regrets about doing so.

In the piece, Tennant says, "It felt right to pass the baton on and for it to continue to thrive." Specifically chatting about the transmission of The End Of Time Part II at the start of the year, he added, "I was at home in London on New Year's Day when I watched my last episode. It felt emotional, a weird mixture of emotions, but above all I was proud to be going out with a bang."

While conceding that there's a downside to leaving such a role behind, Tennant did say that "It created many, many more opportunities than it closed down. My life and career are in a very different place to where they were before Doctor Who and that is 90 percent positive."

And what's more, he's a fan of his successor, Matt Smith, too. "I've loved every second. It's a thrill to be watching as a viewer again. I knew Matt was going to be fantastic and he is. He's a great choice and he's knocked it out of the park," Tennant said.

The actor can currently be seen in the BBC drama Single Father, and you can read the full interview in this week's Radio Times. It's well worth picking up.

RTD Style Daleks Coming Back

Another revelation leaked from 'The Brilliant Book Of Doctor Who' is this quote from Moffat:

"The fact is, we're not going to lose the old Daleks. We're keeping them. They're coming back. We'll just use them all at once, and have different ranks. All I've done is give the Daleks an officer class."

and they're only just starting to film the sixth series itself!

Episode 3 and 4 are basically done. Next should be episode 1 and 2

special preview

"There's going to be a doctor in the house"

BBC America is co-producing the season opening two-parter, written by Moffat himself. The press release also indicates guest stars for the two-parter.

In the special two-parter co-produced with BBC AMERICA, key scenes will be filmed in Utah for a story set in the late '60s in which the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah - right to the Oval Office itself.
Production on episodes one and two of the new season starts in Cardiff this month and Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will then travel to America in mid November to shoot pivotal scenes. They will also be joined by Alex Kingston who reprises her role as River Song.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate him. He drags down the fun and momentum of the show.

Pfffffft. Rory is awesome. He's totally a guy I would goto a pub with and hang out. I was suprised how quickly he grew on me. I had a lukewarm reaction to the second part of the finale, but Rory was great in it. The Centurion lives!

I like him quite a bit as the straight man who goes, uhh.. you guys are being craaaaazy. Because frequently they /are/ being crazy and having a more down to earth guy ads a fun perspective. I liked Mikey too when he was around.

I really hope they don't kill him off again though.. that would just be mean to do it... /again/. He's not fricken Kenny. Also he gives Amy something to mack on. While I thought Amy kissing the Doctor was funny, I /really/ don't want to see yet another girl trying to get into the Doctor's pants. Rose was supposed to be the exception to the rule, not establish a new trend of young girls trying to bed the 900 year old man. I'm lukewarm to River, but at least I'd like to see more of her then Amy as a romantic interest for the Doctor.
