Disney buys Marvel

I'm loving Batman at the moment, but yes, it's obvious what is drawing the most money for D.C.

It's unfortunate that Teen Titans got stuck in a rut after the animated series ended. I blame Didio for this, his meddling kicked Jones off the title and every character suffered character derailment that the title never recovered from, AND it led to another reboot for the Wolfman roster. Judd Winick tried to get it back on the rails, but McKeever fucked it up all over again. The cartoon gave the only group anyone gives a **** about the momentum and Jones finally grew them all up.

I mean...CHRIST, Superman Returns was in production, and what Superman series were airing? Krypto The Superdog and the appauling first season Legion of Superheroes...and because of the legal embargo at the time, they couldnt call Clark Superboy, so he was a pre-pubescent Superman who didnt resemble a late teen or even a mid one. Superman's making a bit of a comeback now thanks to Jones, Donner, and Johnson, but W.B need to put their money behind him on television.

These are my sentiments exactly! And much needed, too.

I think that Disney should have a bit of influence towards Marvel. The quality of the comics is horrible. Joe Quesada is doing the comics a lot more harm than good. So I think the comics division needs an overhaul.

The same as how Marvel's writers are currently working on animated series, animation writers should be pulled in to Marvel.

Wow I didn't realize marvel had such bad quality with there work, now with backing of Disney marvel well hire better writers and artist,I just hope they don't fire the good ones and keep the bad ones.

Don't count on it. I'd like that, but Quesada's got a certain group of friends in high places and they have a liplock on everything. Bendis in particular overstretched himself and now Slott has too. It took that c*nt Miller's near-fatal illness to get him off Fantastic Four.

Millar didn't leave FanFour. He was done. He had already moved onto Wolverine , Ultimate Avengers, and Kickass.

And again, this is mostly just kvetching on a message board, because again, Marvel is still utterly dominating the direct market. Batman and Robin in June gave DC a nice boost, but otherwise, business as usual.

Once again, Marvel had the largest share of the North American direct market by a comfortable margin. They beat DC by 51% to 29% in units, and 45% to 27% in dollars.

1 - BATMAN AND ROBIN
06/2009: Batman and Robin #1 — 168,604
2. CAPTAIN AMERICA
06/09 Captain America #600 - 112,287 ( +54.4%)
3. DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN: UTOPIA
06/09 Utopia - 97,680
4 - BATMAN
06/2009: Batman #687 — 96,913 (+ 8.7%)
5,6. DARK AVENGERS
06/09 Dark Avengers #5 - 95,746 ( -4.0%)
06/09 Dark Avengers #6 - 93,634 ( -2.2%)
7. NEW AVENGERS
06/09 New Avengers #54 - 88,067 ( -6.7%)
8. ULTIMATUM
06/09 Ultimatum #4 of 5 - 87,339 ( +4.9%)
9 - GREEN LANTERN
06/2008: Green Lantern #42 — 84,131 (+ 3.2%)
10 - THE FLASH: REBIRTH
06/2009: Rebirth #3 of 5 — 83,086 (- 3.6%)

Personally, GL is better than Dark and New Avengers, and Ultimatum was utter **** but either a) everyone does hate the comics but buys them for completion or b) we're a vocal minority.

Here's July's prelim numbers. I'll give the top 20 this time.

1 Captain America Reborn 1 $3.99 Marvel 193,014
2 Blackest Night 1 $3.99 DC 176,987
3 Batman And Robin 2 $2.99 DC 117,908
4 Amazing Spider-Man 600 $4.99 Marvel 116,779
5 Green Lantern 43 $2.99 DC 109,353
6 Green Lantern 44 $2.99 DC 104,993
7 Dark Avengers 7 $3.99 Marvel 94,126
8 Incredible Hulk 600 $4.99 Marvel 92,282
9 Captain America 601 $3.99 Marvel 87,786
10 Ultimatum 5 $3.99 Marvel 86,690
11 New Avengers 55 $3.99 Marvel 84,689
12 Blackest Night Tales of The Corps 1 $3.99 DC 83,410
13 Uncanny X-Men 513 $3.99 Marvel 83,344
14 Batman 688 $2.99 DC 82,985
15 Green Lantern Corps 38 $2.99 DC 82,360
16 Blackest Night Tales of The Corps 2 $3.99 DC 77,227
17 Blackest Night Tales of The Corps 3 $3.99 DC 75,086
18 Dark Wolverine 76 $2.99 Marvel 73,968
19 Amazing Spider-Man 599 $2.99 Marvel 72,364
20 Dark X-Men Beginning 1 $3.99 Marvel 69,006

DC gets a boost from the Blackest Night crossover, but Marvel still retains strength in overall market share and dollar value.

Either way, Joe Q probably isn't going anywhere, as whatever he's done is working seeing his utter stranglehold on market. Blackest Night should've utterly rocked the competition in my opinion. It did not.

So like Marvel's creators or not, they better than most of DCs stable in putting dollars in the company's pocket. Which is why Disney wanted them outside of the IP.

Millar didn't leave FanFour. He was done. He had already moved onto Wolverine , Ultimate Avengers, and Kickass.

Miller had to stop his run prematurely because of his illness. Whenever he had a few left to go or not is irrelevant anyway, his run was the worst the title had ever been subjected to since Tom DeFalco (even if Tom had some nifty ideas, they were executed rather badly) and just about everyone is glad he's gone

And again, this is mostly just kvetching on a message board

I echoed the very sentiments you're bringing up, which was "Marvel is **** but it's **** sells"

And I didnt say I wanted Quesada to leave either, I would prefer it if his yes-men would all **** off and die in a fire than keep down fresh talents a minute longer, but as statistics prove, that isnt going to happen.

He took ill in 2005. His Fantastic Four run was always planned to be as long as it was, as Hitch was going to leave for Reborn. Trust me on this.

If anything changes due to the buyout, it may actually be worse in that respect.

Somebody must have been late for the party when they told me about this then, I was under the impression it was recent.

Meh, his run was ****, and actually ruined Dan Slott's hard work on The Thing mini-series. Good riddence.
Didn't read it. I like Millar on specific projects. FanFour didn't seem like the right fit for me.
