Den-O: Why the criticism?

Kamen Rider has always been about a hero who rides a motorcycle while fighting evil. No one have ever said how it suppose to be done. Which is why Toei was able to take a lot of liberities with the franchise.

I'd like to think Kamen Rider is a bit more than just 'dudes rides a bike and fight evil!'

Its about using the power of your enemies against them and usually it explores, if only a little, what it means to be human.

The original Kamen Rider used the body Schocker gave him against them and even though he was now a cyborg he retained his humanity.

Those are the underlying themes that can be found in just about every Kamen Rider serie, even Den-o.

The original Kamen Rider (Ichigo):

Kamen Rider 1 (仮面ライダー1号, Kamen Raidā Ichigō?) is a fictional character and main superhero or henshin character featured in Japanese tokusatsu. He first appeared in the television series Kamen Rider, the first in the famous Kamen Rider franchise of tokusatsu programmes. The primary protagonist of the series, Kamen Rider 1 is a motorcycle-riding superhero modeled upon a grasshopper. One of the most recognizable and iconic characters in Japanese entertainment, Kamen Rider 1 is as easily distinguished as the series itself.

Hence the name "Kamen Rider".

The one you are mentioning is the plot of the original Kamen Rider, and per series, there are always unique plots. Heck, X was transformed by his father in order to fight G.O.D, the Incas gave Daisuke the power of Kamen Rider Amazon, The International Space Development program gave Kazuya the power to become Super-1 in order to simply survive space, and Kamen Rider J's power was given to him by the protectors of Earth, not using the enemies' power against them.

Yes the series is a bit more than "dudes riding bikes", but that is essentially the literal meaning behind the name "Kamen Rider", why call something a "Kamen Rider" when all it does is fight in his feet? Get what I mean? Most people who were attracted to the show were attracted because super-heroes who rides bikes are badass, but they get disappointed when all they get are 2 bike scenes even though the show is freaking "Kamen Rider" for crying out loud.

I rest my case.

you are looking for plotholes. I can easily explain that. with the power of IMAGINATION:)

they created the belt for Ryotaro. before the future got deleted and they where going to die, they gave the belt to the owner.

how did they know Ryotaro? because he was Den-O in another time frame.

I rather make up excuses than having random plot holes that will bother me. just to avoid the feeling of hatred or start arguments with other fans. its an example, I'm not saying that anyone have done it. but I don't wanna do that in the future.

Imagination often leaves out the simplest logic. If the Taros are really from the future which you said they already died in, how did they know Ryotaro even though they didn't meet the Den-O before in the future? If they did, they should have mentioned it.

every rider I seen is a vigilante. and all of them "ride" a motorcycle, even if some almost never use the darn bike. Den-O rode a Train.

by the way, I do get it. its simple. but I won't diss on a show because there is not motorcycle action. I don't think it will hinder my sleep and stop me from liking the show more. or less. but its my opinion and my point of view again.

Listen, I like the show, but as was mentioned over and over again which you still fail to grasp, Den-O is better without the titular of being a "Kamen Rider" because it pretty much missed every point which makes a hero one which you admitted.

Its about giving justice to the years of solid plotlines and stories, a show which technically just took advantage of those years of painful struggle to give a dramatic story just to show us a slapstick comedy is what a lot of people find disgusting.

Add the general Heisei.
examples:

-Godai got his Kamen Rider form when he wore a belt that was originally belonging to a Linto tribesman to vanquish all of the Grongis.
-Kenzaki got his Kamen Rider form when BOARD chose him to hunt down and seal all of the unsealed Undeads.
-Hitoshi got his Kamen Ongeki Rider form when he went on training himself to protect his friends and then went to Takeshi and got his gear.

Yeah, the way I see it, the old KR concept has always been about humanity, and how little we actually cherish it. The old Riders often chose to live in loneliness because it was too dangerous for normal humans to be near them. This way, the Riders became observers of life and experienced joy, sadness and anger through others.

in my eyes rider died when ishinomori did
the only heisei rider thats close Ishi sensens vision is Kiba

Kiva? Kiva?!

You do realize that Ishinormoi was working on a Kuuga or Kuuga-like script soon before he died, right? That would mean Kuuga is the closest to his vision.

:sly: kiva??? wth? did u just say kiva???

id sure like to know where that idea sprung from... cos as far as i know, kuuga has been closest to the original concept of KR in heisei. kiva doesnt even come close to that
