Boukenger Hate

It amuses me how most of the posts on this thread is generally positive.

Anyway, I found Boukenger to be decent. I liked the generally episodic format and I liked some of the characters, like Akashi. Only thing I didn't like was the mecha, even though mecha is really the main thing I like in sentai, since the mecha were pretty boring and ugly looking.

What change? You talk as though she goes through a complete personality overhaul whenever she's with him. There are always many sides to people.

She doesn't change herself as a person, so much, but she acts differently around him and it's not pleasant to watch. Why should she have to do something different? Does she want him to like her or just like what she is pretending to be?

And mecha tends to be a point of contention in fandom, so what do we think of Boukenger's?

^ Funny you say that, since I thought they were some of the most sensible vehicle in a while. Each Vehicle actually has weaponry. They can go on the offense. That's a step up from GoGoV, Timeranger and Dekaranger, where some of the mechas are completely useless on their own.

The combos however are another story. DaiTanken is grotesque. Super Daibouken was pointless and Ultimate Daibouken, clustered as it is, is still probably the best of its kind considering the atrocities Go-Onger and Shinkenger have conjured. The concept of SirenBuilder was also pretty dumb. Try as they did, you can't marry treasure hunting with rescue. What a stupid idea that was, saying an organization like SGS is suddenly interested in fire rescue, paramedics, etc. That's like the American Natural History Museum suddenly commissioning a fire truck. And lest we forget, another attempt to copy the Gao zoo. That's been played out. Give it up, Toei.

I really loved Boukenger's mecha. Not the designs themselves specifically (although I really liked the Daivoyager in the show and the Daibouken and Ultimate Daibouken had nice designs for overly detailed mecha, which I usually dislike), but it's one of the few Sentai series that actually kept its robots' consistent.

The Ultimate Daibouken was introduced as this invincible powerhouse and it went on the entire series only getting legitimately beaten once, every other time there was some excuse for its underperformance (like lacking a pilot and so reducing its power, a fact stated in the show). There were also several episodes which basically only had mecha battles a really nice bit.

If the mecha are so important for the merchandising line, presumably because the target market likes them, I don't see why Toei doesn't attempt a series with the story and action scenes mostly focused on the robots, rather than the suits.

Anyway, one bit that really annoyed me was the SGS conspiracy storyline, which turned out to be just a joke. It happened right before the introduction of the Super Daibouken. I generally liked Boukenger's episodic format, but the resolution of that story was too underwhelming.

So she acts differently around him. That happens a lot in real life and media. A person acting differently around a potential romantic interest is nothing new.

Boukenger's hated because Geki came after it. Inevitably, there were comparisons.

Lol. You sound like you haven't liked someone before. Sakura's a girl after all, and she's just shy. In Japan, it's called Tsundere.

Really? I think Daikai Shinken-oh is a pretty good concept. They didn't squash all the mecha together to form one giant lego brick like G-12, and instead gave a huge cannon to Shinken-oh. The cannon looks cool, and Ebi Origami and Shinken-oh's combined form looks pretty damn cool too.

Anyway, I can think of an explanation for why SGS suddenly decided to go into rescue and paramedics. I don't think SGS was a treasure organisation seeking Precious solely for private benefit, but to protect the world from the potential harmful effects of the Precious. Hence, they might have created SirenBuilder in the off chance that they fail to obtain a Precious and it is used detrimentally to hurt people (e.g. poison them, trap them in buildings, your typical evil plots) and GoGo Vehicles 1-10 prove useless in such a situation. Also, GoGo Vehicles 11-13 could go about rescuing people while the main Boukengers fight off the villian and retrieve the Precious. It's too bad they never really explored the rescue theme on the show.

There's an even bigger mecha for Shinken.

Anyway, Boukenger is one of my favorite '00 Sentai Series, because I like episodic shows, and the characters were really cool. It also introduced the mega-mecha which I thought was good as well. Helps that it was my first Sentai, and I was watching alongside Kabuto...we all know how that series turned out.

I loved Boukenger. I still remember everyone getting pumped up for it. Heck, I remember that I couldn't wait until it premiered. It was the very first series that I completed. Man, I can't believe it was 3 yrs ago when it premiered... it felt like only yesterday.

I used to love the series until Eiji becomes BoukenSilver.
it's always like this, once the sixth member shows up, the series starts losing it's awesomeness in some way. :redface2:
