Boukenger Hate

I have no idea. Boukenger was one of the BEST Sentai I have ever seen and probably had the most interesting and fun cast in years. None of the silly BS that other series had either.

Great stuff overall.

On the other hand Operation Overdrive was not a well-liked series, perhaps some of the viewers who started on Sentai because of Power Rangers were put off Boukenger by dislike for PROO?

Akashi has to be THE dullest team leader in the history of Sentai and his relationship with Sakura was horrible - as if she somehow needs a boyfriend to be more acceptable to the viewer otherwise she'd be too strong and competent.

I don't understand this Akashi-Sakura hate. What was so terrible about it? Does a relationship have to be beaten into the audience's head before it's acceptable?

I liked how their supposed relationship was implied rather than given full-fledged focus. Your comment about Sakura doesn't make any sense either. How was she "overly strong" to begin with? Even without a romance with Akashi, she was more feminine than most other heroines these days who try so hard to act cute and ditzy that they just fall flat on their face. Even Natsumi.

Akashi was a good character because I notice that most reds before him were hot headed. Akashi was more of a leader type than Kai, or Ban, or Ryouga, or Yousuke, or Jan, or Sousuke:laugh:

Can't get back to you on the first point - I disliked the character interaction, not how subtle or otherwise the shipping was. And, hate? I always thought it was one of the most popular ships in the fandom. Evidently not.

The impression I got was that we were supposed to consider Sakura's soldier-like upbringing and comparative emotionlessness (then again, Natsuki was pretty hyper ...) a bad thing. When she is around Akashi, she definitely acts more demure and girly. She could have done better anyway - I just find him terribly, terribly boring.

Granted I find Kaku's Sasuke-Tsuruhime a little better, but this wasn't so terrible either.

Sakura was an upper-glass girl who ran off to join the military or something similar to it before being recruited to SGS. I don't think we're supposed to consider anything about the nature of her "coldness" other than it's there and that it can be a hindrance at times. There is nothing really "cold" about her anyway. An air of maturity and by-the-book professionalism isn't coldness. She was never really "girly" around Akashi either, rather she was more shy, soft-spoken and trying to be understanding to get his appreciation. That's more "feminine" than what once would usually consider as typically "girly" behavior, which tends to be more juvenile things.

I'll grant you that he probably should have reacted to it more, but as I said, I liked how it wasn't beaten over the audience's head. (The 'Taro' episode would have been a perfect chance to shed light on Akashi-Sakura, but instead it becomes about Eiji because someone thought that would be funny...) Boring, on the other hand? What's boring about Akashi? He comes of as a rather decent fellow.

I've always thought Boukenger was boring as heck. The cast was good, yes, but they were wasted. The story went nowhere, had no real drive behind it, a couple of really interesting plot points were dropped so early on, the only episodes I really enjoyed were the Eiji episodes and that one involving one of the grunts becoming a genius.

Was that canon? I like it but I never got round to finishing the series :disappoin

Why should she have to change herself for Akashi? You wouldn't see a male character having to change himself for his love interest.

He is decent, and he wasn't a bad team leader. I just think he's not very interesting.

I've seen Boukenger being one of the most praised sentai in the franchise. The only real hate or dislike for it I've ever seen was here on HJU. Although slightly not as much as a little while back.

I thought Boukenger was a very unique and awesome series. I personally thought it had a very unique cast and lots of awesome episodes. I really loved the whole adventure themes, as well as story themes such as "what is truly precious?" I thought that was a powerful theme, especially at the finale. I also loved the character development done in Boukenger a lot. Overall, I think the characters grew up well. Boukenger is one of my top favorite sentai in the whole franchise.

I don't understand the question. But in the second half of the show, you see the two interacting more than they did before. Sasuke ends up being a pillar for Tsu to lean on in the final episodes. He's always the one reassuring her, giving her some wisdom, which is a change from the slacking jokester he was in the beginning.

Why should she have to change herself for Akashi? You wouldn't see a male character having to change himself for his love interest.

What change? You talk as though she goes through a complete personality overhaul whenever she's with him. There are always many sides to people.

Maybe not compared to others. But I would still take him over the likes of Ban, Kai, Yousuke, Sousuke, etc.

I still say what would have helped Bouken plotwise would have been to make it more like Jiraiya: a series of treasures left from the Gordom civilization that are coveted by Gajya and everyone else, for by combining them all together one receives some great power. The way the show was, there was no real reason for anyone to go after the Preciouses other than just for the sake of it. The Ashu didn't even give a damn about them until they suddenly get turned into a mecha-hording duo who chase after them because they can.
