When Treyarch began talking about Call of Duty: Black Ops II in early 2012, it was clear that Game Design Director David Vonderhaar and his team wanted to steer Activision’s first-person shooter in a different direction. Incorporating a campaign with branching storylines, a futuristic setting and Pick Ten, an innovative take on competitive multiplayer’s Create-A-Class model, Black Ops II is arguably the most ambitious entry in the franchise to date. Question is, do the developer’s downloadable packages follow suit? Or perhaps more importantly, are they be worth your hard-earned money?

In an announcement today, Capcom said it would be releasing Okami HD to the Playstation Network this fall. The digital download will be available for $19.99 USD. In addition to HD quality graphics, the Playstation Move integrated into gameplay and a suite of Playstation 3 trophies will be made available. [jwplayer config=”Custom Player” mediaid=”1021″]In Okami, players take on the rol of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess, who takes on the form of a wolf. She must use her magical abilities to restore the land to its former glory after a monster turns the world into a ruined wasteland. The artistic design in Okami is heavily influenced by Japanese water coloring and the wood carving art in the Ukiyo-e style. The game was originally released to the Playstation 2 in 2006 and to the Wii in 2008, both to critical acclaim. Be sure to check out the Capcom Unity site for more information. Full Press Release after the fold.
In the fall, Monolith Productions will be sending players back into Middle-earth to beat the living snot out of each other. Instead of taking the all too familiar road of action adventure (often associated with the franchise), Guardians of Middle-earth is a multiplayer online battle arena. The game, slated for release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, will feature more than twenty playable characters including Sauron, Gandalf, Legolas, Thrain, Gimli, and Gollum. The games release is timed to be right before Peter Jackson’s upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters, and the game will feature tie-ins to the film. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruLML8axv4Y [Source]
The PlayStation Network will be undergoing maintenance on Thursday, May 24th, starting 8 AM and lasting till 11 PM PST.
