If you go to the XBox 360 marketplace this week and look up the serialized video game Minecraft Story Mode, you might get a little sticker shock. Okay, more of a lighting bolt frying your brain — $99.99 is the tag.
This week Nintendo revealed some great-looking 2DS XL models due out this summer. Right now they’re only announced for Japan, but they’ll work in any region.
A sequel to Minecraft, the game recently acquired by Microsoft, is not likely to go into development in the near future. Speaking in a podcast for IGN, head of Xbox Phil Spencer spoke about how he was wary of creating another instalment of the popular game for fear of splintering the very strong community. Spencer explained that Minecraft 2 might not be the best option for Microsoft, saying:
According to reports from Deadline, Warner Bros. have secured Shawn Levy to work on their Minecraft movie and possibly even direct the feature film. The director has previously worked on fulms such as Night at the Museum, Red Steel and The Pink Panther. A film based on the hit game was first discussed in February, with the game’s creator Markuss Persson revealing that Mojang was in talks with Warner Bros. about a possible deal. It looks like an agreement between the two companies was signed not long after that with Roy Lee, the producer behind the recent LEGO Movie, on board to help with production duties. Rumors suggest that the movie would be a live-action take on Minecraft rather than an animation adaptation.
The developers of Minecraft have decided to drop the price of their other game, Scrolls.
Microsoft has announced that it has bought Minecraft and developer Mojang for $2.5 billion. Releasing details of the deal on the official Xbox site, Phil Spencer confirmed that talks had been ongoing since 2012 about a possible acquisition and that he was excited about working with the developers and community to help Minecraft further grow and evolve.
In a post on their official site, Mojang has revealed that Minecraft will be releasing for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in August. The developers had previously announced that they were looking to bring the game to next generation consoles sometime this year, but have now given official confirmation.
