Why has Anime/Manga turned to Pedophilia?

Well, for one thing, SHAFT wasn't animating it, so it didn't look unbelievably stilted and dark and ****.

Second, considering that a manga isn't locked into 12 episodes and is still ongoing, it has a way deeper plot lying in the background of the story and the anime could not realize this. The manga creates this entire backstory for the werewolf guy (which became amnesia in the anime. Joy!) and expands on the people affected by the vampires.

Also, there's a guy who is a Kamen Rider expy. He rips off the werewolf guy's arm with a Rider Kick. He is the most badass character in the entire manga.

(In the anime he was replaced with generic girl rival-character which pissed me off so hard)

While I agree with you, I think Level E is probably not the best example. Considering it was written 15 years ago. :laugh:

Hey, it's animated now. I'd recommend it to anybody based on episode 1 alone.

Lolicon materials are always going to come off to most Westerners as advocating pedophilia, just because of differing cultural attitudes toward sexuality and entertainment.

The typical* Japanese attitude tends to be that a person's fantasies have no bearing on reality, so as long as it's just cartoons there's no problem. The typical American attitude tends to be that when you portray something as fantasy wish-fulfillment, you're inherently glorifying the fantasy.

So there's pretty much no way J. Random Western Person is going to look at that Vampire Bund cover and not think it's advocating little girls as sexual partners for adult men. That makes it hard for me to fault SaikoDragon's reaction, even given how inflammatory his language is.

*(Obviously, there are exceptions to every typical attitude. There are Western loli enthusiasts who'd riot if the US publisher had edited that Vampire Bund cover to make it less sexy. Likewise, there's also some backlash against the lolicon boom in Japan.)

hook a brotha up please. I can't remember the last really good anime... Berserk was good. I'm so jaded from anime right now. From the story telling to the loli crap, eh. What DID I watch last... Oh I think I watched that new Guyver anime last. It was alright.
