What makes Toku less acceptable than Marvel?

You know, I remember how Anime kind of had this problem in reverse. Around 10 or more years ago, before it was half of CN's running block, anime was stereotyped by a lot of people as "porn cartoons." Didn't matter what you were watching, from Pokemon to Cowboy Bebop. Inevitably, someone you knew would make a joke about how you were watching "porn cartoons."

Nowadays it's not so bad, because anime and manga is everywhere (or was, for a few years) and unless you totally have your head in the ground, it's hard to remain ignorant about the fact that there's a wide range of genres and styles. But Toku is still a niche thing, so people will happily still snark about it out of ignorance. It doesn't have to be based in any kind of reality. It's just because they're assholes, and it makes them feel better about themselves.

...Ok, that's probably the most sense we've made all day- you win the green half of the W's Toku Trophy, Kou!

Yeah, I know this makes little sense- just bear with me, I've got nothing better to do right now.:laugh:

Oh, trust me, any superhero with cool, colorful costumes get dismissed as a Power Ranger. Superman, Spider-Man, hell even Iron Man! They're all wearing awesome costumes and have powers & gadgets! I hate calling them "Power Rangers," but I'd rather take "Power Rangers" over some dark knight in a black suit who only comes out at night, and barely gets seen, because Hollywood filmmakers are so embarrassed at comic-book superheroes.

America is so realism-crazy these days.

Meanwhile, Japan has more imagination. That goes without saying.

Hell, even Europe has more imagination! (They've got Doctor Who, Pippi Longstocking, etc. They may not have colorful costumes, unless you count their wacky wardrobe, but they're awesome broad-definition superheroes.)

Castles that are also dragons, angels who fight with cards and robots, talking cell phones that can fight, Japan makes up some pretty out of the ordinary stuff:thumbs:

Don't forget USB memory sticks that you insert into your body to gain super powers!

People are ignorant about some of the greatest things there are, but it's their loss. It's fine that they get to miss some of the greatest and creative works in the world just because they want to mindlessly attack it. I don't have a problem with that.

No. The manga came in in June 1, 1972 while the series came in on April 3, 1971.

@ Topic: What if someone decided to create a new PR film that is extremely realistic? Will it attract older viewers to delve into the toku genre? I mean, this genre has been around in the US thanks to Godzilla and Ultraman.

Edit: I suddenly remembered a book that I read when the author of the book compared Japanese and Western superheroes... and here's a translated excerpt (The original text was in Filipino) of the part where he started describing Japanese heroes.
