The problem with Manhatten is...there used to him. He's been around for a long time, the whole concept of him being the all-american God led the biblical aspects such as death (origin), character assasination (crucifiction), and ultimatley the politics of everyone drives him away (ascension). Manhatten was dealt with.

All of a sudden he burps and everyone's afraid? C'MON. They wouldnt think twice of standing up to him. The fear of the unknown is what makes the squid work much better. Plus the threat isnt domestic. This changed ending basicly says "The world should shut up or it'll slap itself in the face, but sooner or later people rebel and think "maybe nothing will happen"." No, the squid represents foriegn attack, something noone is used to or can attack with full confidence

On that level, the Squid is essential, and on that level, this ending failed and thus the movie is just a cosplay fan script written by Futruama's Melvar. This is simply "Watchmen: Hot Topic Edition". People will still think it's badass, but that's all they'll think. They won't actually THINK about it's message, or it's spirit, or it's story.

The Dark Knight
remains far superior to it. Most of the time saying something is better than that masterpeice is just fashionable opinion, not objective opinion.

Now, I haven't read the graphic novel yet but I'm going to (bought it last night after watching the movie), but I've heard from fans of the novel that the movie was pretty damned close/true to the graphic novel.

But I suppose there will always be a fanboy who needs to gripe/whine about something.

Well, there's one thing I will say that I don't want to take another look at for three hours...

Blue long-donger. Every time they showed that shot, I'm like "Dude, stop it. That's just wrong."

WHY do people have such a problem with this?

You guys don't have a problem watching a women get half raped, a pregnant women get shot, people set on fire, dogs eating/tearing apart little girls, bones snapping, but you have a problem seeing a blue penis or a guys ass?

I notice you had NO problem at all seeing Laurie's tits.

Its a sad world when people get all upset over seeing the male genitals in a movie, but they're not upset over violence.

Yeah, I heard someone from the audience even saying "It was true to the comic book" when the movie was over.

My sister has it, so I'll probably borrow it off her when she's done.

I thought it was great. It remained true to the comic, albiet some things were missing. I've already seen it twice, and will be seeing it for a third time later this week. I do highly recommend reading the book before seeing it, as it will help you understand it a bit more.

Because that's not something I'm used to seeing in a feature-length film? Is that explanation enough for you?

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, per se, and I don't have a problem with it. I'm just not used to seeing **** like that. Stop being worked up over nothing.

See, from your critiques it looks like you're going overboard. You've latched on to a change and instead of trying to figure out the change and why it was necessary for the movie ending, you toss everything else the movie accomplishes out the window.

In this movie, the squid would not have worked as well. There wasn't enough time to properly establish the island of the artists and also give proper time to exploring the character of the movie's main characters. Using the squid would have been out of left field for a viewer and almost seemd stupid.

Using a fear of god instead ties the movie together so that all characters get their full usuage and resolution. Using DM as the thing Earth fears ties it all up and gives DM even more of a reason to go make his own galaxy.

It works quite well for the movie format.
