Especially when it seems that a lot of those first episodes for the longest time all sort of followed the formula having the enemies attack, the heroes gathering, and then them confronting an army of enemies from a cliff. While it can look cool (and Fiveman's probably my favorite version of it), skipping to a decent episode 10 or 15 episodes in can often be a much better introduction to the story and visual capabilities.

I've noticed for a lot of older shows, watching a good episode that's not the first episode can be a better introduction to it than... well, the first episode.

So THAT's what Nickelodeon and/or Saban were thinkin'…

One big exception of course being Liveman, which had one of the best two parter openeings in the history of the franchise.

Just started watching it myself. I will always maintain that Changeman has the coolest role call sequence ever. Watched through episode three and can't wait to watch more. I find Bazoo's design and sheer presence kind of unsettling, getting major Giygas (Earthbound) vibes.

I'm more about Dekaranger and Magiranger roll calls myself. And at first, I found Bazoo's constant micromanaging kind of funny. That didn't last long, and you have no idea on the Giygas vibes. No idea.

Changeman is my favorite Sentai, I have the oficial brazillian DVDs, witnessed in TV when was a child! =)

Yeah, I enjoyed the first few episodes of Flashman, but the show didn't really reach out and grab me until Sir Kaurel showed up. I find most heavily-hyped Sentai villains are disappointments but not that guy. Now that's what a bad guy is supposed to be.

Nah, I suspect they were thinking "sell robot toys." Shinkenger's 3rd episode is actually one of the weaker ones and a worse place to begin than the first two (which exposit some things you need to know that aren't repeated in most later episodes).

I was rather startled to find out that B-Fighter's disturbing "floating space torso" was in fact directly ripped off from somewhere else that actually made it creepier. Stuff like this in Super Sentai had to give some kids in the 80s nightmares.
