I just finished episode 21. I was a bit wary going into it, fearing that this was going to be another 'exploding baseball' episode, but this episode's silliness was genuinely funny. I think the best part of it was Shiima, who has a man's voice, going through all the stages of the sterotypical crush on a rockstar. Including disillusionment, hee.

Also, I couldn't help noticing a lot of similarities to a certain of Goseiger, especially how both featured really cheesy, schmaltzy ways of fighting back against evil rock & roll monster. Its funny how these plot and structures get recycled years if not decades down the line, isn't it?

Well, just finished episode 30. On the one hand, the monster was really creepy any time it opened those gigantically huge eyes of its. On the other hand, a kamikaze suicide horse is just silly, preventing me from taking Ozora's heartfelt pain seriously, which is a shame. By contrast, Mai got an actual human character to play off of and form an intense emotional connection with in episode 26, even though it was all done in just one episode.

In any event, I can safely say at this point that Sayaka is my favorite, followed by Mai, than Tsurugi, Hayate, and Ozora.

Well, I finished Changeman today. My final verdict? I loved it. I thought it was great and the ending felt really fulfilling, kind of like Magiranger. My only real complaint in the end was that I couldn't find a good, in-story reason for why Ibuki kept his true alien identity hidden from everyone, nor why the Changeman crew weren't more suspicious over Ibuki's seemingly vast knowledge of the workings of all the myriad alien worlds out there. Maybe it made sense at first, Ibuki couldn't be entirely certain how everyone would react to him being an alien when they're trying to fight off aliens, but when they had that episode where they gave the one alien a funeral with honors, Ibuki should have been able to come clean right then and there.

But like I said, its a great series, with wonderful heroes and villains and on solid pacing and plotting on the whole.

Like I said elsewhere P), Changeman generally had some good visuals for its time, but I agree that the final sequence with them running through Bazoo seemed underwhelming. I think it was pretty much the only downside to that last episode and sort of took me out of the experience.

Yeah, that was a big case of the reach of the writers vastly exceeding the grasp of the special effects department, and it really is a shame, because Giant Robot vs. Living Planet is a great concept. Hell, you know what would have been awesome? If the Changeman team could have figured out a way to have Gyodai zap the Change Robo and make it big enough to cut Bazoo in half from the outside.

I think it would have been awesome anyway.

From the sound of it, while Changeman is amazing in so many areas, it seems to have trouble catching people's attention (particularly at the start). hehehe.

Well, after disappointing you over Maskman, I had to make it up somehow. :laugh:

Pretty much; the premise of the series is boiler plate, and the first two episodes don't sell the show very well because they're pretty much all 'plot plot plot', no time for characterization. But once you get past that, its actually a rich and rewarding watching experience, solid all the way through. Well, except for the baseball episodes. And the horse performing a heroic sacrifice. But aside from that, solid!

I think that episode with Yuuma's horse is pretty friggin' sad.

I've noticed for a lot of older shows, watching a good episode that's not the first episode can be a better introduction to it than... well, the first episode.
