Voltron-Defender of the Universe!

If you're going to mess with the Voltron design, why not add just a little something that could be a mane (on the individual lions)? I, for one, will never be satisfied until Voltron (the mecha) is made live-action zord-style (no CGI).

You basically want a Voltron Toku...good luck with that

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this, but why exactly is Voltron on Earth in New York?

Granted the original GoLion starts off with a brief bit concerning Earth after World War III, but then everything shifts to the planet Altea and doesn't look back. And in Voltron, they were on another planet right at the start.

That's a sign right there that something is seriously wrong with the direction of this movie.

Somehow I got the feeling this is gonna be another Dragonball: Evolution.

In response to the SoL pic:

I saw it! It's a lion! It's huge!

Whoever gets that wins a cookie :anime:

From The Reyy:
Srsly tho... Voltron. It has always half sucked. The characters (pilots) are just so lame. Seriously, it's a fact. You've always known it. Keep the badass lion robot-- make cooler pilots (maybe more modern / relatable)? Voltron will be cool again.

In Japan, Golion is not at all well-known (even less so than God Sigma!), so it's still astonishing that something unpopular there is famous here, as opposed to the Force Five series featuring vastly superior shows (with the music and sound FX mostly intact, no less!).

It makes sense to me, as a genre fan. Because mecha is such a lucrative genre in Japan, Japanese licensors are infamous for asking really high licensing rates for new mecha shows if they're popular in Japan. Because Go Lion and Dairugger XV flopped, World Events could probably buy the licenses from Toei on the cheap and do as they pleased with the dub.

I think Americans remember Voltron fondly because, culturally, it was our first exposure to the five-man combining robot show formula. It's really the formula that's awesome and I think we probably would've liked whatever show in that mold that made it over here first. The Philippines got Voltes V first so Filipino mecha fans are still ga-ga for it, for example.

It's like how Gundam to most American fans will always mean "Gundam Wing." That was the first Gundam series officially licensed for American distribution and TV airing, so that's going to be most fans' image of what Gundam is. (It was also, once again, a show that could be licensed somewhat cheaply because Japanese fans didn't care about it all that much!)

So either this is indeed fake, very much "concept" art (as in story needs work, different premises, or they randomly decided the Statue of Liberty would work as a "point of reference" for the model), or they have some very unusual ideas in terms of this movie's adaption of the source material.

Maybe they are going for a mix of both series. Maybe Voltron devastated the Earth at some point?

Voltron never aired in Canada...so I have no idea how good this show is, is it good?

Funny, cause it aired where I lived. o.O

After trying to fight the Goddess of the Universe or whatever she was called, and failed miserably? That could be interesting...but so far, I'm not impressed with what I'm seeing here.

Voltron needs to be picked up by Sony or Legendary Pictures .

Also, They could make the pilots hesitant to be in the destroyer of worlds, especially if they witnessed it or their parents did. Give Voltron personality and stick with it unlike in Golion where he became a soulless megazord, and make him go on a rampage through Altea after the first robeast fight from which they'd have to force split and tame the machine. Make the "goddess of the universe" be the princesses or sages of that planet that sealed voltron on their homeworld to prevent further destruction. Or maybe make Voltron like a nuke and be evil or good when controlled and then make a personality pattern from that?
